Finding the right Wine show for you
Turn a bottle around in a wine aisle and the small print on the back starts asking questions. The best wine podcasts answer them. In Family, Vines & Vision: The Story Behind Dry Creek Vineyard, an episode of The Sipping Point: Wine, Food & More!, Kim Stare Wallace explains why "produced and bottled by" differs from "vinted and bottled by". She thinks the first phrase is "really the guarantee" that a family grew the grapes and made the wine on site. After the explanation, the shelf starts to make sense.
What listeners debate is how much of that teaching they want. A February 2026 thread on r/wine asked for information and education over casual conversation. A September 2026 thread asked for podcasts that were entertaining and educational. Few shows weigh the two equally, so the useful question is what kind of hour you are after.
Lessons with a glass in hand
EAT SLEEP WINE REPEAT: A Wine Podcast Exploring Wine Regions, Grapes & Education suits listeners who are studying as well as drinking. In Ep 257 – Orvieto DOC: Italy’s Most Overlooked Wine Region Explained with Luisa Salussolia, the WSET educator describes vineyards where oyster shells turn up in the soil. They then discuss the exam acronym, SATAB, along with plainer advice: slow down. A return visit from Ian D’Agata shows how deep the show can go. Of blending tests with graduated cylinders, he says, "I never, never, never make a mistake if there's 10% of something added."
The Norwegian-language Vinmonopolets podcast teaches through the nose. 417 Vinfeil del 1 puts acetaldehyde in one glass and sotolon in another before moving on to cork taint. Listeners who find a corked bottle are told to bring it back. Few fault lessons are more practical.
Wine Appraiser teaches through blind comparison. In Let’s Try Some Aussie Wines, Dennis and Denise line up a $7, a $17 and a $30 bottle from one winery and find they are "different on every one of them". That tells a nervous shopper more than any score. Wine with Meg + Mel pairs Meg Brodtmann with Mel Gilcrist. In Queensland Wine, Is This Australia's Next Great Wine Story? a white that smells to one host "like canned pineapple" is earmarked for a drinks list, and its $29 price is received with delight.
Arguments worth overhearing
For some listeners the pleasure is two people disagreeing well. Two Guys Talking Wine is hosted by Michael Pincus and Andre Proulx. Early in The New Sagrantino di Montefalco, a glass of mystery wine is pressed into a host's hand, and its tannin is firm enough that one of them fears he "may have just committed infanticide". In Boscarelli - The Next Level of Nobile, a faint tomato-stem note is compared to a cigarette a roadie stubbed out before everyone walked in: still there, but only just. A beginner can carry a description like that into their own glass.
Wine News, from the team at Wine-Searcher with Don Kavanaugh and Oliver Styles, follows the trade. Bordeaux En Primeur 2025 Weather Special is built around one host's claim that weather may matter less in Bordeaux than it used to. David Allen MW comes in to offer another view, and alcohol and pH figures for Chateau Angelus are read aloud. It assumes you follow the market. Grapes & Debates brings looseness instead. During a Grgich Hills Estate tasting, one voice explains autolysis and then adds, "if this isn't true, I will edit this whole thing."
Wine as a place and a trade
Other shows anchor wine in a place. Where Wine Takes You - A Paso Wine Podcast sits down with Paso Robles growers and owners. In Ep 166: Paso Leads in Regenerative Organic Certified – Featuring Robert Hall Winery | Le Cuvier Winery, a guest explains the gyropalette, a big riddling box used for in-house sparkling wine. We Know Texas Vino is rowdier and more homemade. In Episode 82 - Sage Vintage Crush Pt2, a speaker recalls tasting blind at the Lonestar International Wine Competition. He decided that a wine filed among the Pinot Noirs was "not a Pinot Noir" and wanted a bottle.
The Taste with Doug Shafer – a Podcast About Wine, Food, and Friends draws on Napa memory. In Russ Weis - A Career through Mondavi, Opus One, Silverado Vineyards, and Walsh Vineyard Management, Shafer recalls a Mondavi cellar master telling him, "Mr. Mondavi has told us to share everything with everybody." Tasting Notes Toronto by Insider Wine stays on the restaurant floor. There, Patrick Habchi tells of a dispute over a bottle of Screaming Eagle and a bin number printed very small.
The Sipping Point's food talk leads naturally to the Cooking & Chefs page. Wine News strays into cognac stocks and single malts, and listeners drawn that way can continue on the Whiskey & Spirits page. The Food & Drink guide and the Leisure category guide map the wider field.

Evaluating a wine without knowing its identity — grape variety, producer, vintage, or region — to remove expectation bias from assessment.
