What Beer & Brewing podcasts actually cover

Pour the same pilsner from four breweries into four glasses and the differences start arguing with you. Beer podcasts at their best do that work out loud. They taste side by side, admit when a beer disappoints, and explain why a flaw tastes the way it does. Some are tasting panels with a comedy habit; others are brewers talking yeast. The reward can be knowledge, company or simply a good table to sit at.

The arguments around them are mostly about tone and the way in. In an April 2026 Reddit thread, one listener praised a panel show's irreverence, while another found its humour excessive but still credited its tasting. Others warn that recurring jokes and wandering talk can leave a newcomer outside the door. The audience for podcasts in general is large: in March 2026 Edison Research reported that 58% of Americans aged 12 or older had consumed a podcast in the previous month. How many of them were hearing a panel argue about Kölsch is anyone's guess.

Tasting panels, jokes included

Four Brewers: Craft Beer and Homebrew makes the best case for comparison. In 370: A Week of Timbo Pils the hosts work through versions of one pilsner from Alvarado Street, Cellar Maker, Everywhere and Highland Park. One "smells totally different," and the last, brewed with cannabis terpenes, draws a joke about failing a drug test. In 364: The Ship Is Going Down! they read the dates on a Ballast Point mix pack and find cans from September 2023 in a case marked April. It is small detective work, and a habit worth borrowing.

By its own account, The Beerists Craft Beer Podcast ends each episode by judging whether a beer is "a buy, a try, a sigh, or a die." Its descriptions are inventive along the way: in Sun King one aroma "bends in the honey direction." The banter in Montana Pipe Bros is rowdy and profane, so it suits listeners who like a loud table.

Beer Guys Radio Craft Beer Podcast is calmer. In Annual Oktoberfest Blind Beer Tasting 2025 the three hosts land on the same top three, which they say has never happened before. Along the way, Nate picks up a familiar homebrew flavour in the Shiner. ABV Chicago Craft Beer Podcast takes its time. In the 86-minute DIPA Nostalgia, a host admits he could not have perceived the honey in one double IPA without another beside it. Craft Beer Republic's TJ Maxx Beer Dreams is looser still, though it sneaks in a lesson when diacetyl, the buttered-popcorn off-flavour, becomes "the diacetyl pterodactyl."

Inside the brewhouse

When the question changes from what a beer tastes like to why, Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine Podcast is the most exacting listen. Adjusting the Thiol Dial with ISM, Ology, and Berkeley Yeast gathers working brewers to discuss thiols, which the episode links to notes of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, grapefruit or diesel. Tim Shasha of Berkeley Yeast describes a double IPA in which the yeast's 3MH character never announced itself, yet amplified the other hops. The episode assumes you know your way around a dry hop. The payoff is hearing professionals compare their decisions.

Basic Brewing Radio, hosted by James Spencer, is homebrewing at a gentler pitch. 01-01-26 - Annual Disaster Show 2025 runs 105 minutes, with Disaster Show Bingo and listener mishaps. One letter describes the writer's wife greeting a hard-won batch: "Bloody hell, that tastes like lager!" In 12-18-25 - Archived Brews and Artificial Intelligence, a guest who reconstructs historic recipes finds a chatbot citing a website that was itself generated by ChatGPT: "you get a circular argument."

On Beer Sessions Radio (TM), Jimmy Carbone's Live From Lone Tree has guest Jerry explain hop creep. Enzymes keep breaking down residual sugars after fermentation, which is one reason an IPA can taste different months later. On The Brewing Network Presents | The Session, in The Session | Coniston and Crafty, Coniston's Peter Scully argues that "in brewing, we make a mistake by categorizing beer."

Business, bars and the long view

The Beer Temple Podcast, with Chris Quinn and Mike Schallau, turns industry argument into sport. Ep # 360 - The Great Debate reads an Andy Crouch article from All About Beer, then stages a debate between brewery taprooms and beer bars. In Ep # 366 The Definitive Guide To The Future Of Craft Beer: Part 5, one participant thinks their predictions repeat year after year because the industry is moving so slowly. At 117 minutes, with running characters, it rewards regulars more than first-timers.

America The BREW-tiful records brewers in the room. In Season 6 Episode 9-2 (05/03/2026) - Alternate Ending Derby Day Brewery Interviews, one brewer says their draft drinkers buy far more lager than IPA, even though another speaker thinks IPAs collect the higher ratings. The conversation lands on a neat line: "The lager crowd are the people that are there to enjoy the experience."

Friday 5pm, from YouTube's Craft Beer Channel, brings a British perspective. Friday 5pm – Disney adults (ft Rachel Auty) talks with the founder of Women on Tap about International Women's Collaboration Brew Day. Friday 5pm – Jonny spontaneously combusts recounts a history tour of Belfast during the Troubles, including a pub that kept its security cage after a 1988 shooting.

Beer as a reason to travel

Craft Beer Travel & Adventure, from Ken and April Pishna, goes to the source. In Brouwerij St. Bernardus: Embracing History, Crafting the Future, a voice from the brewery describes standing with "one foot in the past and one in the future, and those feet are day by day growing apart." Asked about an IPA, the brewery doubts one is coming. Buffalo Brews Podcast mixes itinerary and appetite in Tampa Bay Brew Tour, with a stop for Cuban-inspired sandwiches.

ABV Chicago Craft Beer Podcast's Let The Fun Be Gin, about gin-barrel beers, points toward the Whiskey & Spirits page. The Wine and Cooking & Chefs pages sit nearby, and the Food & Drink guide and the Leisure category guide map the wider field.

Glossary

Speak the language

Hazy IPA

A style of India Pale Ale brewed with large quantities of hops added late in the process and often with wheat or oats, producing a cloudy appearance, soft bitterness, and strong tropical-fruit aroma.

Thiolized yeast

Yeast strains engineered or selected to release sulfur compounds called thiols during fermentation, amplifying tropical fruit aromas such as passion fruit and guava in the finished beer.

Decoction mash

A traditional brewing technique in which a portion of the mash is removed, boiled separately, and returned to the main mash to raise the temperature in steps, developing richer malt flavor.

Cask ale

Beer conditioned and served directly from an unlined cask, undergoes secondary fermentation in the vessel, typically served at cellar temperature without added carbonation.

IBU

International Bitterness Unit — a measure of the bittering compounds (primarily iso-alpha acids from hops) in a beer; higher numbers indicate more perceived bitterness.

Adjunct

Any fermentable ingredient other than malted barley used in brewing, such as corn, rice, oats, wheat, or fruit; can lighten body, add flavor, or reduce cost depending on the ingredient and use.
