Some great Strength Training & Bodybuilding podcasts to get to know
You have the length of a leg session to fill. One option is a researcher explaining why a study of twenty lifters can't settle much. Another is a coach describing the point in a contest diet where the cracks start to appear. Both are strength and bodybuilding podcasts. At their best, they do what a training app can't: they let you hear an experienced lifter or scientist reason through a question, including the part where the honest answer depends on you.
The arguments around them are lively. In a November 2025 Reddit thread, one commenter called the "science-based" label primarily branding, while another defended science as a way of thinking. In August 2026, a discussion of low versus high training volume included a listener's point that extra sets on paper may lose their edge if you dread the workout. This page sorts the shows by what they give your listening time: research argued out, the inside of contest prep, coaching built around ordinary constraints, and the louder culture around the stage.
Hearing the research argued out
Iron Culture presented by MASS, hosted by Eric Helms and Eric Trexler, is where to hear a finding weighed rather than announced. In Ep 366 - New Studies: Long Muscle Lengths & Muscle Swelling, the hosts work through why small samples mislead. Of a study with 20 people, one says, "all you can know for sure is, yeah, that happened in these guys or gals." The episode runs 77 minutes and the jokes arrive early. It suits listeners who enjoy the route as much as the destination.
Fit to Transform Podcast with Coach Nikias brings the same material into interview. In The latest research on lengthened partials, regional hypertrophy, and isometrics for growth - With PhD Candidate Dorian Varović - Ep. 183, host Nikias Tomasiello restates his guest's findings and asks whether he has them right. That simple habit checks his understanding of a hedged result. The Stronger By Science Podcast belongs here too. Its team calls SBS Podcast Final Q&A the final episode of the main run, so treat the show as an archive to browse.
Inside contest prep
Contest shows move from what a study measured to what a diet feels like months in. Bodybuilding Down Under is hosted by four bodybuilders from Australia's competitive scene. In 204: WHAT IT ACTUALLY TAKES TO WIN A WORLD TITLE FT. CLIFF WILSON, the guest lands on a blunt point: the science of getting lean is "really not rocket science." The harder skill, as the guest describes it, is "learning to manage your gas pedal" across a long prep.
2 Dads, 1 Bodcast, hosted by John Shaw and Dylan Tran, is rowdier and mixes in fatherhood. In 147: Show Season Excitement & The Best and Worst Advice We’ve Received, one host recalls holding a client steady six weeks out and telling her, "I don't need you getting leaner." The hard part, as he tells it, was her belief that she should be suffering.
The Girl Gainz Podcast, from Alexis Nicole and Amber Pacholok, answers listener questions in Q&A- How many times should you compete in 1 season, fasted vs non fasted cardio, scars & stretch marks| EP 179. One host calls fasted cardio superior for bodybuilding in her opinion when the schedule is ideal, then concedes that "evidence in the research is going to say cardio is cardio." Keep both halves in mind.
In Peak Week Lies, The Plateau Excuse, Darin Starr of The Drop Set with Darin Starr: Bodybuilding for the Masses calls water loading "very performative." The same episode promotes his own paid course, and that context belongs beside the advice. For nearby women's training subjects, see the Women's Fitness page.
Training around ordinary lives
Not every listener has a stage in view. In #564 How I Make The BEST Gains in the WORST Gyms!, Joe DeFranco's Industrial Strength Show turns a poor hotel gym into a lesson in tempo, pauses and intent: "Make those lighter dumbbells feel heavy."
In Training Into Your 40s, 50s & Beyond. What Actually Matters, the Smart Strength Training Podcast pushes back on advice that treats older adults as fragile. It argues for small, gradual increases, because "nothing slows consistency down more than injury." For the wider field, the Fitness guide and the Health & Fitness category guide take it from here.
The louder end of the sport
Serious and Silliness Bodybuilding, presented by John Livia, treats contest talk like sports radio. In Shooting the Breeze. Martin Fitzwater destroys his career and Hadi is uncertain about retirement., the panel argues over whether a winner deserved it, and one guest says he was shocked by the official scorecards. The show's Anabolic Academy episodes include frank personal accounts of drug use, as do guest interviews on the Bodybuilding Lifestyle Podcast. Hear them as testimony from one corner of the sport, never as instruction.
