Getting into Small Business Marketing podcasts

A contractor pays for a lead, calls back too slowly, and finds the homeowner has already booked someone else. The best small business marketing podcasts deal in moments like that: the slow week, the unopened email, the phone call nobody tagged. Their subject is the gap between a customer's interest and a customer's money.

The current arguments are about what to automate and what to put on camera. Edison Research's June 2026 report found that in Q3 2025, 82% of weekly podcast consumers actively watched video podcasts, and 78% listened to audio-only ones. Those habits overlap, and the figures cover podcasting generally. In May 2026, a Reddit poster asked for marketing podcasts grounded in demonstrable results and said they were frustrated with AI-related content. That is one listener's view, but the same tension between AI enthusiasm and earned expertise runs through several of the shows below.

Shows built around one trade

The most concrete listening comes from shows that pick one industry and stay there, so every example already looks like the listener's business. Digital Marketing for Contractors spends Why Contractors Lose 30–50% of Their Leads (Without Realizing It) tracing where inquiries leak between the web form and the kitchen table. It uses an invented remodeler, Summit Bath Solutions, to keep the arithmetic simple. On aggregator leads sold to several contractors at once, the verdict is blunt: "You didn't lose on price. You lost on the clock."

Heads In Beds Show brings more appetite for argument to vacation rentals. The 60-Day Booking Window Is Dead - Here's What To Do About It argues that discounting as check-in approaches teaches guests to wait. It also suggests that a listing Airbnb tags as rarely available belongs to someone who has pricing figured out. The Auto Repair Marketing Podcast is warmer and more anecdotal. In Differentiating Your Shop Through Market, Message, and Method with Rick White [E198], White complains that shop websites get stitched together from about ten others. The episode later describes a shop whose best clients turned out to be small business owners, which pointed toward the chamber of commerce rather than Facebook.

Wedding professionals have Marketing Strategy for Wedding Professionals & Businesses: The Evolve Your Wedding Business Podcast. In How to Book More Weddings in 2026: What Every Wedding Pro Needs to Know, Heidi Thompson warns against answering couples with a giant PDF and an email that ends "let me know."

Coaches for the owner who does it all

Generalist shows trade that specificity for a steadier teaching voice, which suits owners who run their marketing alone. Build Your Marketing Muscles - Small Business Marketing Strategies is Gwen Montoya talking straight to the listener. In Making Your Marketing More Effective she argues for removing subscribers who haven't opened anything in six months, or trying a win-back campaign first, because those inactive names drag down the open rates owners worry about. My Weekly Marketing, hosted by Janice Hostager, takes on a newer worry in How to Get Your Business Found in AI Search Results with Julia Bocchese. It includes a disarming moment when nobody can remember what Help a Reporter Out is called now.

The AI question gets its most useful handling on Make Marketing Suck Less for Expertise-Driven Solo Businesses. In Why Real Experts Hate Marketing — and What to Do About It, Dr. Michelle Mazur tells listeners to interview real clients. Asking a chatbot instead, she says, yields "a bunch of mediocre insights." She then answers "Absolutely" when asked whether AI can help sort the recorded conversations afterwards. That split, with people doing the research and software helping with the analysis, is a sharper position than simply being for or against AI.

If your questions are really about posts or blogs, the Social Media Marketing and Content Marketing pages sit next door. The Marketing guide maps the wider field.

Live rooms and storefront stories

Some shows sound like a meeting you've wandered into, and that is the appeal. I Love Marketing, with Joe Polish and Dean Jackson, takes questions from a live chat in Lead Conversion Mastery: The Nine Word Email with Joe Polish and Dean Jackson. It covers a re-engagement email as plain as "Are you still interested in a metal roof?" and then brings on an addiction doctor to workshop his own subject line. At 78 minutes it wanders, but much of the coaching happens in the wandering.

Mastering Local Marketing: Sales and Marketing Strategies for Small Business Growth, from the WJOB podcast network, prefers storefront examples. Rule of Reciprocity: How Generosity Boosts Marketing Strategies & Customer Acquisition includes a taco shop charging about double its rivals, where a customer notices the free chips and salsa.

Listening for the pitch

Many of these shows exist partly to sell something, which matters less when they say so. In What Is The Future Of Direct Bookings (With Arthur Colker), a Heads In Beds Show host says on air that his affiliate link to the guest's product may go in the show notes. ClickFunnels Radio is franker about money. The OPA Method: How Paul Counts & Shreya Banerjee Scaled to $100M Without Paid Ads - CFR #805 turns to recurring ClickFunnels affiliate commissions. Near the end of He Made $25K in 9 Days by Adjusting His Facebook Profile - Blake Nubar - CFR #804, the talk becomes open enthusiasm for the guest's ad software. The dollar figures in those titles are claims, not forecasts for your business.

Mortgage Marketing Radio offers a steadier model in $93M Producer Reveals His Scripting & Referral Playbook. A stand-in host reads out the guest's production record, and the guest names practicing scripts as the most important habit behind it.

Glossary

Terms worth knowing before you listen

Local Marketing Funnel

The path from local awareness to purchase for a geographically constrained business — covers search visibility, social proof, and repeat-customer loops that national brands handle differently.

Content That Converts

Content designed with a specific next action in mind — a click, a booking, a reply — rather than general brand awareness or engagement metrics.

Marketing Consistency

Showing up on the same channels at a sustainable cadence over time; the unglamorous compound-interest side of small-business marketing that outlasts individual campaign bursts.

Positioning

The deliberate choice of what a business stands for and who it is for, made before spending on any channel — the message problem that precedes the distribution problem.

Copywriting

Writing that moves a reader toward a specific action; in small-business marketing it covers emails, landing pages, social captions, and in-store signage — anywhere a word has a job to do.
