Finding the right Retirement Planning show for you
Somewhere near the last paycheck, a retirement balance stops being a score and starts being a salary. The best retirement planning podcasts work inside that handoff. They cover how much to draw each year, when to claim Social Security, whether a Roth conversion's tax bill now buys a smaller one later, and what fills the days once work stops.
The arguments are live. In January 2026, Kiplinger reported that William Bengen had raised his starting withdrawal guideline to 4.7%, set beside Morningstar's 3.9% for steady, inflation-adjusted spending. Bengen works from history; Morningstar's figure comes from forward-looking simulations. In July 2026, Christine Benz, writing for Morningstar through AP, weighed researchers' case for simple income annuities against investors' reluctance to hand over capital. Listeners split as well: some want calculations, some want other people's stories, some want encouragement. Edison's March 2026 report put monthly online audio use among Americans 55 and over at 70%, up from 52% in 2024, though online audio is broader than podcasting.
Shows that run a household's numbers
Your Money, Your Wealth builds its episodes around listener scenarios. In Retire Early in Your 40s or 50s: Green Light or Reality Check?, the hosts take George in South Carolina. He is 45, spends roughly $96,000 a year and hopes to stop at 53, and the hosts test whether a taxable account can carry the gap years. The arithmetic moves fast, and the caveat is said aloud: "These are just assumptions, so we don't know how close this will be."
Your Financial EKG™ | Retirement Planning | Investment and Wealth Management | Financial Planning offers something rarer, a plain no. In The 3 Numbers That Decide If You Can Retire, the host says a couple projected to have $567,000 saved at 60 cannot retire at 61, because the projection runs dry at 72. Parts of it are narrated over planning software, so audio listeners hear about visual demonstrations they cannot see.
Big Picture Retirement® pairs a JD with a CFP®. In Planning for Single Retirees — Part 3: Tax Planning and Roth Conversions, the hosts discuss Medicare surcharges tied to income and narrower tax brackets for single filers.
Where the income arguments get aired
Retire For Less With The Annuity Expert is blunt and openly partisan. In Stop! Listen To This Before Letting Your Advisor Sell You an Annuity, the host reads another advisor's illustration for a 71-year-old client who wanted income immediately, then names the omission: "Here's the verbiage he forgot to put in the last line. Minus withdrawals." In The 4% Rule vs. Annuities: Which is the Best Retirement Strategy?, the host argues against single premium immediate annuities for most people over 59½ because that income stream is irrevocable, and favours other annuity types the firm recommends. Hear that as the view of someone who recommends annuities as well as a lesson.
Managing Your Financial Future with Lucia Capital Group argues in Why the "RMD Withdrawal Strategy" May Be Disastrous that withdrawals pegged to IRS life-expectancy tables can cut monthly income after bad markets, and offers its Bucket Strategy® instead. For the research under these fights, try Retire Today's How to Turn Retirement Savings Into Reliable Income with Dr. Wade Pfau. It covers longevity, spending shocks and sequence-of-returns risk.
Radio shows and the call to action
The Retirement Solution, The Retirement Blueprint and Empowered Retirement are advisory-firm productions with radio roots, and their pitches are part of the listening. In Navigating Federal Buyouts | Retirement Roadmaps & Income Planning | The Tax Trap in Your Nest Egg, The Retirement Key repeats its offer of a complimentary plan to listeners 55 and older with $500,000 saved. The Retirement Blueprint's Avoiding retirement disenchantment. recites a phone number again and again. It also makes a useful case for planning the 2,600 hours retirement frees up. Candour surfaces in The Retirement Solution's Retirement Myths: Are You Chasing the Wrong Number?, which includes this admission: "I do not manage my own money because my emotions ruin me."
Life after the last day
Early Retirement - Financial Freedom (Investing, Tax Planning, Retirement Strategy, Personal Finance) hands its Retirement Reality interviews to retirees. In Ex-Software Engineer Reveals Dark Truth Behind "Never Turning Off" | Retirement Reality, Darren recalls quitting dinner when paged. After he left the job, he went about three months without a phone because he could not bear its text sound. Retire Today's DARE to Re-Think Retirement with George Jerjian rests on Jerjian's account of a bone tumor diagnosis at 52. Retire Sooner with Wes Moss asks in Where Should You Live in Retirement? (And How to Pay for It) how close to settle to adult children. Early retirees should also see the FIRE & Financial Independence page.
