A field guide

Value Investing podcasts, explained

A cheap stock is only the beginning of the argument. The absorbing part comes after: why the price is low, what the market may have misunderstood, how much uncertainty the valuation can absorb, and which unpleasant fact would break the thesis. In audio, that reasoning is exposed. You hear the hesitation, the follow-up question, the search for a cleaner comparison.

That makes this a patient corner of the broader Investing section. Value Investing stays close to businesses, balance sheets, capital allocation, and the price paid for future cash flows. Turn to Stock Market Analysis for faster reactions to market moves, or to Stock Trading & Options for more emphasis on setups and execution. Venture Capital shifts the focus toward private companies, while Cryptocurrency follows a different set of assets and valuation debates.

From business story to intrinsic value

The Intrinsic Value Podcast - The Investor's Podcast Network has the clearest stock-pitch shape. Two investors work through a company together, building from what the business does toward financial quality, risk, and valuation. The tone is explanatory without becoming remedial, and the interruptions are useful: one voice advances the case while the other asks what still needs proving.

Its company choices are broad enough to show how the method travels. TIVP066: Valuing Constellation Software's Spinoffs: Topicus, Lumine and co. w/ Daniel Mahncke & Shawn O'Malley puts valuation directly in the title. Other entries turn the same attention toward a recovering consumer brand in TIVP015: Nike (NKE): Just Buy It? w/ Daniel Mahncke and Shawn O'Malley and a beaten-down staple in TIVP012: Hershey (HSY): A Deliciously Beaten Down Stock? w/ Shawn O'Malley & Daniel Mahncke. These are good listens when you want the argument assembled rather than merely announced.

InvestED: The Rule #1 Investing Podcast is looser and more conversational. One voice often arrives with a thesis; the other questions it, translates it into ordinary language, or presses on the uncomfortable implication. The discussion is comfortable with intrinsic value, ownership, patience, and risk, but it leaves the working-out intact. That makes it especially approachable for someone learning how experienced investors challenge their own first answer.

Art of Boring takes the long-horizon temperament seriously. Its titles repeatedly pull attention away from fashion and back toward economic substance: Global Equity: When the Voting Machine Overwhelms the Weighing Machine and Accounting Shenanigans and the Pursuit of Economic Truth are almost a miniature syllabus in price versus value. Nostalgia Is Not a Strategy: Adapting the Investing Playbook to a Changing World Order adds a useful warning against treating old rules as museum pieces.

The stock-pitch workshop

Yet Another Value Podcast lives in the productive mess of a live thesis discussion. Questions come quickly, deal mechanics matter, and the conversation assumes the listener can follow a ticker without a long runway. It is particularly good at giving one company enough room for the risks and oddities to become visible.

The range runs from payments in Guinea Value's Jinshu Zhang on Fiserv $FISV to a strategic review in Theravance's strategic review with Andy Summers $TBPH. There are also less familiar situations such as Chris Paryse on Ferrellgas's big conversion $FGPR and Roy Swisa on $DJCO. This is where to go after you know the vocabulary and want to hear an idea tested in detail, with the side roads left in.

The Acquirers Podcast is denser. Its interviews translate claims into valuation, margins, capital intensity, returns, and time horizons, with questions used to advance the reasoning rather than repeatedly reset it. The result feels like shop talk among people who expect assumptions to be stated and challenged.

Different schools of value sit beside one another here. Alexander Roepers on constructive activism and concentrated value in $KEX, $AXTA, and $FLS | S08 E09 carries a concentrated, intervention-minded frame, while Mark Cooper on global small cap value, AI and managing small cap long/short at MAC Alpha | S08 E13 points toward smaller companies and a long/short structure. Juan Torres on emerging market value investing, China, Indonesia and Taiwan | S08 E06 moves the search beyond the usual US universe.

Zacks Market Edge is more procedural. The solo format often sounds like a screen-based walkthrough: check the valuation metric, look for the catalyst, inspect expectations, then decide whether “cheap” is deserved. It moves briskly and keeps the toolkit visible.

That procedural approach makes an episode like 3 Stocks with Low PEG Ratios for Your Watch List useful to listeners seeking a repeatable screening rhythm. The crucial distinction appears in 5 Large Cap Drug Stocks: Values or Traps?; a low multiple can be an invitation or a warning. 3 Old Economy Stocks Winning in 2026 offers another route away from the most crowded growth stories.

Markets around the company

The Canadian Investor brings valuation into a two-person discussion shaped by Canadian markets. The hosts think aloud, qualify themselves, and keep turning headlines into investor implications. They are skeptical without trying to manufacture drama.

Company news and portfolio judgment share the same table. Why BRP Stock Just Crashed & GFL Makes a Huge Acquisition is a direct entry into two corporate events, while 3 Signs a Dividend Cut Is Coming and Canadian Bank Earnings Kick Off points toward income risk and financial-sector reporting. For a recognizable value-investing reference point, there is Buffett's Farewell, Constellation's Pullback, and GoEasy Sells Off.

PIWORLD Investor Podcasts works at a more historically minded pace. Its interview questions allow long answers and detours, then keep returning to what a cycle, model, or market shift means for investors. In the Company of Mavericks: Capital Cycle Investing with Django Davidson is the most direct on-ramp for this page. The adjacent In the Company of Mavericks: Simple but not easy with Richard Oldfield captures the temperament problem neatly: the principles can sound clearer than their execution feels.

Enterprising Investor widens the frame toward professional practice. It is measured, technical, and willing to translate portfolio language without flattening it. Ben Carlson, CFA: Risk, Reward, and the Real Price of Long-Term Investing belongs squarely in the patience-and-trade-offs conversation, while Neeraj Khemlani and Matt Ankrum, CFA: The Hunt for 100-Bagger Stocks looks toward the far end of long-term compounding. For portfolio construction beyond individual stocks, try Roger Urwin: What a Total Portfolio Approach Looks Like in Practice.

Behind the Balance Sheet is the deliberate counterweight to tidy conviction. Its interviewer-led style is courteous but probing, returning guest claims to evidence, incentives, temperament, and the point where the numbers stop cooperating. #58 The Chart Guy - $4tn CIO Michael Cembalest on markets, AI and the impending rout in US Treasuries signals a broad markets conversation rather than a single-company pitch, useful when you want to hear how valuation thinking behaves under a larger macro claim.

Where to start

For a complete company walkthrough, begin with The Intrinsic Value Podcast - The Investor's Podcast Network and TIVP012: Hershey (HSY): A Deliciously Beaten Down Stock? w/ Shawn O'Malley & Daniel Mahncke. For one live idea examined from several angles, try Yet Another Value Podcast; denser professional shop talk points you toward The Acquirers Podcast. If your taste runs toward discipline and accounting rather than ticker excitement, Art of Boring and Accounting Shenanigans and the Pursuit of Economic Truth make the strongest first pairing.

Glossary

Terms worth knowing before you listen

Margin of safety

The gap between an asset's estimated intrinsic value and its current market price. Graham's core principle: buy at enough of a discount to be protected against errors in your own analysis.

Intrinsic value

The estimated true worth of a business based on its underlying economics -- earnings power, assets, and competitive position -- independent of current market sentiment.

Economic moat

Warren Buffett's term for a durable competitive advantage that protects a company's returns on capital from erosion over time. Includes network effects, switching costs, intangible assets, and cost advantages.

Economic goodwill

The portion of a business's value that comes from its intangible competitive advantages -- brand, customer loyalty, pricing power -- as distinguished from accounting goodwill on the balance sheet.

Dividend sustainability

Whether a company's current dividend payment can be maintained or grown over time, judged against free cash flow generation, payout ratio, and balance sheet quality rather than yield alone.

GARP

Growth at a Reasonable Price -- a hybrid approach associated with Peter Lynch that applies value discipline (price-earnings relative to growth) to companies with above-average growth trajectories.
