Our guide

A listener's guide to Leadership Development podcasts

The best leadership development shows sound less like a keynote than a debrief. Someone describes the meeting that went sideways or the employee who kept missing deadlines, and the conversation works back to a habit a listener could change by Friday. The argument is about how often that happens. In an r/Leadership thread indexed in August 2026, one listener objected to CEO interviews dominated by morning routines, while another praised hearing real coaching sessions. The audience is broad, though loosely measured. Edison's Infinite Dial, published in March 2026, put monthly U.S. podcast use among people aged 12 and over at 58%, a figure that now counts watching as well as listening.

The useful question is what a show asks of you. It might offer a model to try, practitioners to overhear, an honest look inward, or a framework rooted in faith. The Leadership guide and the Business & Finance category guide cover the wider field.

Models you can test this week

The Remarkable Leadership Podcast suits managers who want a method. In two guest episodes, host Kevin Eikenberry asks for the big idea of the guest's book, then digs for the usable part. In Questions are the Answer to your Leadership Effectiveness! with Laura and Dominic Ashley-Timms, the guests argue that manager-as-coach training was borrowed from executive coaching and fails in a busy workplace. Their model ends with a result, because "this isn't a nice cozy coachy chat sort of thing."

Leadership Jam Session works on a smaller scale. In Ask Rob: What Are the Advantages of Situational Leadership?, Rob Fonte pairs four stages of learning with four coaching skills and concedes the model is "not the end-all be-all." Empowered Educator: Leadership in Motion | Educational Leadership, Principal Leadership, Teachers as Leaders carries the same instinct into schools. In 🎙Engagement in Action — Episode 2: See It. Name It. Do It. Coaching in Real Time #202, it argues for giving teachers feedback while the learning is happening, not after the bell.

Overhearing people who did the job

IT Leaders records talks at live events, and you can hear the room. In The Power of People Skills ft. Laura Hemenway, the speaker recalls blurting out an answer in a meeting and watching it bounce around until it came back as exactly what was said first. The lesson is patience. In People Leadership in the AI Era ft. Chris Sibila, a credit union CIO ranks people, process and technology in that order, giving technology one vote.

Founders get their version on Burnout Proof Leadership: Shift Your Identity, Develop New Skills & Leverage Workplace Tensions to Unlock your Next Level. In Trapped in the Business You Built? How Entrepreneurs Burnout & Leadership Skills That Will Reduce it with Tyler Dunagin, a founder asks his team to set consequences for broken standards. Theirs come back stricter than his "by a factor of three," and because they wrote the playbook, they enforce it. The Culture & Change Management page follows that thread. On Your Path to Nonprofit Leadership, Kevin Dean recalls being surprised at "how lonely the position was."

Leading yourself first

Burnout Proof Leadership: Shift Your Identity, Develop New Skills & Leverage Workplace Tensions to Unlock your Next Level turns inward in How to Rebuild Your Leadership Identity After Burnout - with Olympic Champion Samantha Livingstone. Livingstone describes the most brutal seven days of her life: a surgery, a heart that failed twice, life support. She also recalls a memory, a coach holding up a steady mirror as she fell short in a hard set alone in the pool. Hosts Michelle and Tracy trade their own resets in The 5 Self-Leadership Skills You Must Master to Lead Without Burnout.

Next Level Leaders with Dr. Joseph Walker, III works through numbered points in this episode. The Leader’s Inner Work: "Healing Before Helping" arrives at "You can't lead others out of places you haven't exited yourself." The Mindset & Personal Development page goes further down this road.

When the framework is faith

The Christian shows differ more than the label suggests. Christian Business Concepts travels furthest. Harold Milby, a former pastor who spent years as a vice president of sales and operations, uses Failure in Your Team: What You Do Next Defines You to separate a skill gap from a pattern. In his view, "you can't punish someone into competence," but repeated errors after training call for a performance improvement plan with a clear timeline. His line between grace and enablement would hold in any office.

Dare Great Things For Christ is more reflective. Fr. Nathan Cromly's King Solomon series starts with DGT Episode 344 - A Listening Heart - King Solomon Part 1. That episode turns Aquinas's distinction between king and tyrant into a question for managers: do you rule for your people's flourishing, or for staying in power?

The church-staff shows are narrower and franker. Leading Second Podcast speaks to leaders in the second chair. Lead It Like You Own It ft. Brandon Stewart | Ep. 219 dwells on the book's final idea, that "ownership's final act is laying down what doesn't belong to you anymore." In Good To Great Part 3: Systems | Pastor Earl McClellan, Shoreline City Leadership Talks reads the feeding of the crowd, sorted into groups of hundreds and fifties, as a lesson in systems. It also recalls moving from two campuses to three with systems that worked for two. The Joy & Pain of Leadership Succession, from The Emotionally Healthy Leader Podcast, calls handing on leadership "the pain of letting go, which is a death."
