What College Basketball podcasts actually cover
The best college basketball podcasts work the gap between what you watched and what it meant: how a team that can't shoot still runs the country's most efficient offense. Lately the arguments have moved off the court. In September 2026, AP reported senators divided over the Protect College Sports Act. Ted Cruz said it would restore order, and Chris Murphy said it would preserve an exploitative system. In August 2026, Awful Announcing reported that the podcast network Field of 68 planned to bring back an opening-day marathon featuring mid-major programs on November 2, streamed on YouTube and X. Listeners, meanwhile, keep an older quarrel going: whether a host's tangents are the charm or the detour.
The national desks
Eye On College Basketball is the CBS Sports show hosted by Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander. It is sharpest when it explains a number. In EOCBB on CBSSN: One last look back at the E8; our first preview of a great F4; UNC coaching search, the hosts work out how Illinois had the most efficient offense in the country without shooting well. It took care of the ball, ranked third in offensive rebounding percentage at 39.5, and made 78% of its free throws.
The mailbag These 12 teams CAN WIN the title this season: The Ultimate Mailbag & a whacky Final Four & 1 runs 116 minutes and wanders happily. At one point the hosts race to name active coaches from the old Big East while picturing listeners "washing their dishes on a run, screaming at their phone." Whether that sounds like company or delay will tell you whether this show suits you.
In its April 2026 episodes, The Hoops HQ Show, with Seth Davis and Andy Katz, turns to the system behind the scoreboard. In Carousel Chaos with Syracuse Legend Jim Boeheim, Boeheim's diagnosis of his old program is blunt: "we never adjusted at Syracuse to the price that had to be paid to get players."
An NIL Agent Tells All: Money, Unions and NCAA Regulations hands the floor to Dan Poneman. His agency, Weave, represents well over 150 players in the portal, and he talks through above-the-cap NIL money. It is an agent's view of a market he works in: illuminating, and not neutral. Listeners following stay-or-go draft decisions can cross to the NBA Draft page.
Further down the ladder
HoriZone Roundtable brings the same economics to the Horizon League. In And Now Our Watch Has Ended (Sort Of), after Wright State's loss to Virginia, the hosts dwell on Ja'Cory White's 26 points in 24 minutes, 6 for 8 from three. They also admit they should have asked a Summit League podcaster for a scouting report. In And Now For Something New And Completely Different, the talk turns to what players now cost, and one host notes, "we didn't see in the tournament a true Cinderella this year."
Living with one team
Most of the field belongs to a fan base, and its pleasure is company. Church Ball: A BYU Basketball Podcast, with Chase Rogers and Karter Baughan, published previews and instant reactions in February and March 2026. In PREVIEW: BYU vs. West Virginia | What Will BYU's Response Be? | Church Ball Pod, the hosts recall spending 90 minutes on the UCF loss, and one says he has already "burned the tape." Their reaction to an overtime win over Colorado still finds room for a complaint that Jimmer ruined a lot of LDS pickup games.
The UM Hoops Podcast, hosted by Dylan Burkhardt and Eric Shapiro, pairs the feeling with film-room patience. How Michigan won a National Championship leans on a KenPom figure: over the last 30 seasons, Michigan is only the fourth champion with a better defensive rating than offensive rating. A host is dry about the show itself too, tentatively grading its editing "C minus" in an offseason roster episode.
The 200 Level with Mike Carpenter: A Fighting Illini Fan Podcast sounds more torn. In Mirk Nowitzki (03/20/26), a tournament win over Penn still prompts a complaint about Brad Underwood holding his first-half timeouts, which the host calls "a recurring thing."
Check the Net on Impact 89FM covers men's and women's games side by side. In Final Had A Four, the women's Sweet 16 and Elite Eight come early, including sixth-seeded Notre Dame's upset of Vanderbilt. Check the Net 3/10: Reality Check: The Season Review scores the panel's preseason conference picks: five points for a champion, minus three for a pick that finished last. For the women's game on its own, see the WNBA & Women’s Basketball page.
Picks and prices
The College Experience: Basketball, hosted by Colby Dant, Patty C and NC Nick, is a betting show and says so. In FINAL FOUR PICKS (Michigan vs Arizona & UConn vs Illinois) - March Madness, 2026 NCAA Tournament (Ep. 1147), one panelist breaks from a co-host, noting that Illinois had faced three straight slower, physical opponents. The reasoning is genuine, and so are the sportsbook and fantasy sponsor reads, so weigh the picks with both in mind.
