Panther Point of View

Panther Point of View gathers several kinds of UNI Panthers audio under one name, and all of its recent episodes are basketball. Two parts stand out. The first is 'Claw Calls of the Game', which strings together play-by-play calls of made shots, steals and drives. The second is the Hoops and Family Podcast, a conversation series hosted by J.W. Cox and presented as part of Panther Point of View from Learfield. The calls are the heart of it. A run of men's episodes follows the Panthers through the MVC tournament, from a first-round game against Evansville, through Illinois State and Bradley, to a title game against UIC. Each one opens with the same line, 'This is Panther basketball', and then a line about what is at stake: survive and advance, or, before the final, admission to the dance being one more win away. The plays come quickly after that, and the calls clearly root for the Panthers. When the calls end, the men's episodes move to post-game conversation. Trey Campbell is described as a fourth-year starter who gets to his spots, and Leon Bond as a versatile three-level scorer. One exchange is about the team's defensive identity and repeats a coaching line that toughness and defense travel. Another looks back at how the group kept winning while Tristan was limited by an ankle injury. The title-game episode feels like a celebration. There is talk of a historic week, and the team is described as the first to win four games in four days. The women's team is in the same series. Calls from a 92-73 win at Indiana State in Terre Haute cover Riley Goble becoming the 32nd Panther in program history to reach 1,000 points, and Jenna Tweet reaching a combined 1,500 between Kirkwood and UNI. The Hoops and Family Podcast is a sit-down show instead. It opens with the idea of a new era with the same family, and Cox talks with head coach Kyle Green about his first days in Cedar Falls and what is still to come. The conversation with athletic director Megan Franklin covers Live Purple Give Gold, from teams working phone banks to thank supporters to a stated department goal of $250,000. The questions are friendly, and the calls make no pretense of neutrality. For a first listen, the four MVC tournament episodes in round order show most clearly what the feed does best.
