The rundown
What you'll hear on NBA Analysis podcasts
When Bam Adebayo scored 83 against Washington on March 10, 2026, the box score settled almost nothing. NBA analysis podcasts do their best work in the days after a night like that, testing it against history, against the tape and against what the hosts saw with their own eyes. Lately the shows themselves have become part of the argument. An April 2024 essay in The New Yorker questioned whether audiences always want education over entertainment. On October 9, 2026, a third-party reproduction of Apple's US Basketball chart placed personality-led and analysis-led shows side by side near the top. In September 2026, listener discussion of one analyst's new distribution partner made ownership part of the debate too.
One game, four verdicts
That 83-point night shows how differently these shows think. The Big Number, with Tom Haberstroh and Dan Devine, defended it on Bam's Big Night + Austin Reaves and Luka shine without LeBron. The episode argues that the 43 free throws came from a player Washington had no answer for, and it tells doubters to "go back and watch the tape."
Over and Back: Stories About NBA History, hosted by Jason Mann and Rich Kraetsch, used Bam Adebayo's 83 and the most unlikely high-scoring games in NBA history to ask whether it was the most shocking scoring game ever. The hosts also admit the foul-heavy final minutes weren't great basketball.
The New Twenty Four aimed its criticism at the Wizards in Episode 55 - "Context Is Everything", calling their surrender a culture killer. Sportsball's host, in The Return of Sportsball!, offers the shortest verdict: Adebayo scored 83, "Sort of."
Spreadsheets and film rooms
If you want the reason behind a result, The Big Number is built for you: one statistic, put to the test. In Wemby vs. SGA for MVP + time to scrap the NBA's 65-game rule for awards? the case for Victor Wembanyama rests on a plus 16.5 on/off swing. That figure measures how much better his team scores and defends with him on the floor than on the bench. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's tiny turnover numbers then pull the argument the other way. The jokes keep the math breathable: "it's not called the big feelings Tom, it's called the big number."
The ALL NBA Podcast, with Tim Legler and Adam Mares, works at game speed. In Steph Curry and the Warriors INSANE Win + Can the 76ers Give the Celtics a Run? | ALL NBA PODCAST, the hosts walk through second-half possessions in which Draymond Green left an opponent stumped, with the opponent holding the ball before simply passing it away.
The Lowe Post, with Zach Lowe, runs denser. Joel Embiid Extension, Knicks Center Rotation, and Lakers Coach JJ Redick!, from September 2024, lays out Embiid's playoff on-off numbers series by series. It then moves to a conversation with Redick about the new job and what it means for his family.
The cap sheet is its own school. The NBA Podcast, hosted by Morten Stig Jensen, spends The NBA Has Some Issues Going On These Days... - Featuring Bryan Toporek on tanking and max contracts. The conversation, from February 21, 2026, includes a possible 2028 Jalen Brunson deal it expects would top overpaid lists. Hardwood Knocks: An NBA Podcast narrows to one team in Chicago Bulls 2026 NBA Trade Deadline Primer, from January 30, 2026, where one speaker pitches Chicago going all in for Giannis Antetokounmpo, salary matching and all. For prospects, the NBA Draft page picks up the thread.
Voices from the floor
Former players change the texture of the argument. On Gil's Arena, founded by Gilbert Arenas, one panelist in Gil's Arena CELEBRATES The Lakers' Winning Streak argues that a player chasing his next contract avoids contact and settles for jumpers. That is a locker-room read no spreadsheet supplies. Scorer's Society puts it bluntly in The Goat Debate Is Stupid..Lebron Vs Jordan Needs to end,Jokic owns Wemby & more: one host says the stats are correct but don't tell the whole story.
The Draymond Green Show offers an active player's awards ballot. In Warriors vs. Clippers Play-In Preview & Draymond's NBA Awards, Green puts Wembanyama first for Defensive Player of the Year, "a long drop off" ahead of Chet Holmgren.
Point Game with Isaiah Thomas and C.J. Toledano turns playoff questions into memory. In Magic & Hawks Surging, Jokić Overwhelmed & LeBron Still Has It, Thomas recalls Brad Stevens benching a season-long starter to get Gerald Green's shooting on the floor.
Club 520 Podcast, hosted by Jeff Teague, hands the microphone to a guest in Club 520 - Mark Cuban on buying Dallas Mavericks, trading for Luka Doncic, Kobe Bryant deal. Cuban says in the April 6, 2026, episode that a finished trade for Paul Pierce fell apart when Atlanta demanded a first-round pick. Both of these episodes carry sportsbook advertising.
Daily habits and long memories
Some listeners want company every morning. No Dunks renamed the play-in "the pit" in Hornets-Heat Deliver PIT Classic, Avdija's Superstar Moment & East Playoff Previews. In The Drop | The Playoff Pressure Index, Breakout Stars & Instigator Draft 3.0, from April 17, 2026, Skeets pays off a loss by painting mid-episode while the panel debates how far the Knicks must go for Karl-Anthony Towns to stay. The Athletic NBA Show rotates its writers, and its 18-minute Daily Ding: LeBron injury news | Wolves maul Clippers works as a quick catch-up.
For the long view, Over and Back: Stories About NBA History offers Willis Reed: 10 best & most important games in his career, which calls Reed's 1970 Game 7 return "equal parts overrated and underrated."
Single-franchise fans can try the NBA Team Coverage page. The WNBA & Women’s Basketball and College Basketball pages, the Basketball guide and the Sports category guide cover the wider field.

Glossary
Words hosts use without explaining
A mini-bracket held at the end of the regular season to determine the seventh and eighth playoff seeds in each conference. Teams finishing 7th through 10th in each conference compete; the 7-vs-8 winner earns the 7 seed, while the loser gets another shot against the winner of the 9-vs-10 game.
The date each season after which rosters are frozen for playoff eligibility. Teams above the luxury-tax threshold face escalating penalties for deals that add salary, making the deadline a balance between win-now moves and long-term roster flexibility.
End-of-season awards voting by media members that place players on First, Second, and Third All-NBA teams. Designation affects max-contract eligibility for players on rookie extensions, making the selection a contractual milestone beyond a simple honor.
The penultimate playoff round in the Eastern Conference, a best-of-seven series between the last two surviving Eastern teams. The ECF winner advances to the NBA Finals.
A dollar-for-dollar (and escalating repeat-offender) penalty paid by teams whose payroll exceeds a set threshold above the salary cap. Proceeds are distributed to non-taxpaying teams. High tax bills constrain roster-building options at the trade deadline and in free agency.
The shortened, trust-based lineup a coach uses in postseason games, typically seven to nine players rather than the full regular-season rotation. Playoff rotations reveal which players a staff trusts in high-leverage moments and often spark debate when veterans are benched for younger contributors.
