Some great Bible Study & Teaching podcasts to get to know
Open a Bible at James 4 or Hebrews 11 and one question comes before any other: how slowly should you go? The shows on this page answer it in different ways, and that variety is the reason to browse them. At their best they put a teacher beside you while the page is still open, one who stops on a Greek verb, a missing name, or a line that refuses to fit. In October 2026, Bible-reading companions sat at #1 and #3 on Apple's US Religion & Spirituality chart. That shows how visible the format is. It says nothing about how many people listen.
Listeners argue about practical things. Some want a brisk daily overview. Others want verse-by-verse teaching that still fits a commute. Many want to know which tradition a teacher reads from before they commit a year to him, because an enjoyable host does not settle whether his interpretation suits your church. Most of the teachers below speak from inside Christian faith and say so plainly. One pair reads as non-believers.
One verse at a time
Reasoning Through the Bible is the purest case of slow reading. In James 4:8–17 Explained: Humble Yourself Before God (Session 14), the two hosts, one of them Steve, stop on "purify." They note that the Greek also carries a sense of chastity and read it against James calling his readers adulterers a few verses earlier. The publisher describes the teaching as evangelical. In Joel 2:12–23 - Return to the Lord with All Your Heart (Session 4) they break off mid-chapter "because of time," which tells you the passage sets the pace.
Wisdom for the Heart brings the same patience to narrative. In Faith . . . and a Wicker Basket (Exodus 2:1-10), Stephen Davey observes that the story's characters go unnamed at first. He argues the omission keeps God as the primary actor. Growing Thru Grace, Pastor Jack Abeelen's teaching through whole books, adds dry humour. In Hebrews 11:27-28 // Faith Over Fear (Part 1) he retells Moses' reluctance and voices God's reply: "Fine. Knucklehead. I think it's right there in the Hebrew."
Truth For Life leans toward doctrine. In All One in Jesus, Alistair Begg teaches that Christian unity is "supernatural in its origin" and "doctrinal in its substance," and he rejects reading the passage as a call to ecumenical structures. Verse by Verse Bible Study with Dr. Wayne Barber does similar work. In Three Aspects of Pure Praise | Part 2, Barber points out that the text calls the four living creatures zoa rather than therion, the word for a beast. Listeners who want this teaching delivered as whole sermons can continue on the Sermons & Preaching page, and those who want the doctrines themselves can try the Theology & Doctrine page.
Hard passages, several answers
Word Matters turns one troublesome text into one compact episode. Brandon Smith and Trevin Wax host the show, which is sponsored by the Christian Standard Bible, and these episodes date from 2017. What does the number 666 mean? includes an early joke about hotel floors. It then lays out futurist readings, the Nero theory and the contrast with 777 before one host lands on the figurative, or idealist, view. In Does God promote genocide? their guest Joshua Butler argues that the episode reflects divine patience stretched across four centuries.
LIGHT OF MENORAH asks smaller, sharper questions. In Truth Nuggets - 17 - Mirror of Passover: Chiasm of the Lambs, the host notes that in the Amplified Bible the word "lamb" appears in square brackets in 1 Corinthians 5:7. Listeners whose questions turn toward defending belief may find the Apologetics page more direct.
Study as a daily habit
Some shows care less about depth than about getting you to the text every morning. Fusion Church Morning SOAP Bible Study meets on Zoom at 6 a.m. on weekdays. In Tuesday, April 7 | John 20 the teacher has everyone stretch before praying. Mission 66 Bible Commentary, from TWR, adapts the Brazilian teacher Luiz Sayão for teacher John Mathews and co-host Esther Sisulu. 2 Samuel 18b-19, Good News And Bad News lingers over a messenger who expects David to celebrate a victory.
Building Faith and Family Podcast, with Steve Demme and Scott, is the homeliest of the group. Early in Deuteronomy 29-Joshua 8 a host talks about fresh cinnamon bread, and later comes a story of $1 work boots taken as an answered prayer. Journey Elgin keeps a reading plan as well: near the end of Journey Through Scripture - Hosea, listeners are sent away to read Isaiah 1–6 and 2 Kings 15. For prayer-centred listening, see the Devotionals & Prayer page.
Around the table, sometimes loudly
GRINDIT podcast is a panel in no hurry. In Episode 548: 1 Corinthians 5 Part 1 Tolerating Sexual Sin: Are We Guilty? the hosts recall that chapter one took eight episodes and warn that this one is for mature audiences. Bible News Press is quieter. In Following the Feast of Tabernacles Through the Bible, Laura traces the feast to John 1:14 and admits that most of the commentaries she checked skipped a puzzle in Nehemiah 8:17.
Moriel Ministries has the hardest edge. In Weekend Bible Study With Jacob - There Is Only One True Gospel, the teacher names Roman Catholic sacramentalism and a Calvinist reading as errors. He also invites challenge: "I'm the easiest person in the world to win an argument with." Catholic and Reformed listeners should know that before they press play.
Reading without belief
Sacrilegious Discourse - Bible Study for Atheists comes from a married couple who do not believe. They read Scripture to understand their Christian neighbours in the Midwest. Recording live on Discord for 2 Maccabees Chapter 13: Bible Study by Atheists, they discuss the watchword and fixate on the 22 war elephants. It is profane and openly sceptical. For the wider field, return to the Christianity guide or the Religion & Spirituality category guide.

Where to start
5 routes in, one per reader
Start with *Faith in Action - Introduction to the Book of James (Session 1)* — the duo format and explicit question-and-answer rhythm make multi-session study easy to follow without prior background.
The "God's Story" arc builds cumulatively — *Into the promised land (Joshua 4:19-24) GOD'S STORY SERIES Ep. 20* gives a sense of how the series frames the whole biblical narrative.
Start with *Lies of the Enemy. How to Use Scripture as a Weapon. 4 Steps to Implement* for the topical approach, then sample the 1 Corinthians book-study episodes.
*Can Bad Hermeneutics Lead to Heresy? with Rob Congdon* is a good entry before committing to the multi-session John's Gospel run.
*Women's Bible Study | 2 Kings 23-25 | Kim Killebrew* is the recent end of the 2 Kings series; start earlier in the run to follow the arc.
Glossary
A quick Bible Study & Teaching glossary
A teaching method that works through a biblical text sequentially, explaining meaning passage by passage or verse by verse rather than building a topical sermon around a theme.
A fixed schedule of Scripture readings, often organized by the liturgical calendar, used in many Catholic and mainline Protestant traditions for daily or weekly Bible reading.
A short reflection or meditation on a Scripture passage, typically 5–15 minutes, intended for daily personal or family use rather than sustained academic study.
The principles and methods used to interpret Scripture — decisions about genre, historical context, original language, and how to apply ancient texts to contemporary questions.
A Protestant theological framework that reads biblical history as a series of distinct eras or "dispensations" in God's relationship with humanity, with particular attention to prophecy and the role of Israel.
