About You Ain't Imagining This!
You Ain't Imagining This! is a trauma-aware show rooted in Black experience and careful self-recognition. Its world has recurring rooms: the front porch, the stoop, Umoja Cafe, Yatetown, and the Carter G. Woodson Community Garden. Those places are not decoration. They give the show a teaching ground, a sense that difficult ideas can be approached from somewhere familiar and held with care. Recent episodes move through curiosity, invisibility, interrupted speech, survival coping, racial literacy, racial vigilance, and the work of experiencing good things without rushing past them. The pace is measured. The language is plain enough to hold close, but it does not avoid technical terms when they help name what is happening. An Espresso Talk can bring in internalization or racial socialization. A Comforting Moment can pause on breath, shoulders, and the sentence that a person matters. A YAIT Story can linger over the small body-level shift that happens when a voice is cut off before it finishes. The show returns often to the difference between coping to get through a moment and choosing something healthier afterward. It does not shame the former. It still names the cost. That balance gives the show its force. It understands silence, smiling, leaving, code switching, and staying prepared as strategies people may have learned under pressure. It also asks what becomes possible when those strategies are seen clearly. The title works less like a catchphrase than a steady refrain. It insists that overlooked experiences deserve language. The show's best use on PlayNext is for discovery through mood as much as topic: reflective, protective, emotionally direct, and grounded in communal memory. It suits clips where a concept lands inside a lived scene. It also suits moments where rest is treated as serious work.
Made for: Suits a listener who wants reflective, emotionally grounded work on Black experience, racial stress, healing, and self-trust. It also fits someone drawn to teaching that moves slowly from story into practical language.
What sets it apart: The show stands apart by building a teaching world around porch, cafe, garden, and community imagery while still naming concepts like racial literacy and neuroplasticity plainly. It makes psychological language feel lived-in rather than clinical.
