Uncanny Universe is a loose, fast-moving review show for people who keep one eye on genre movies and the other on the news around them. It is not a solemn critics' table. Dylan and Michael usually start with a little scheduling chaos, a joke, or a stray recording mishap, then push into trailers, casting items, release-date notes, physical-media news, and whatever major franchise announcement has just landed. The show has a clear appetite for horror. Alien Romulus, Strange Darling, Cuckoo, Door, The Exorcist Believer, Saw X, Longlegs, Hush, Nosferatu, Blair Witch, It Follows, Frogman, Grotesquerie, and Mike Flanagan projects all sit comfortably in its lane. Superhero and franchise material stays just as present. Agatha All Along, Loki, Spider-Man, D23, Star Wars, Borderlands, Cyberpunk 2077, Scott Pilgrim, and Sony's Spider-Man universe all become raw material for quick reactions and half-skeptical excitement. The structure is dependable. News first. Spoilers later. The conversation often pauses to acknowledge exactly when a review is about to give things away, especially for newer releases or older films that have only recently resurfaced for a wider audience. What gives the show its shape is the constant push and pull between enthusiasm and doubt. A trailer can look immaculate and still earn suspicion. A franchise entry can be exciting in theory and exhausting in practice. A steelbook, restoration, or cult release can become newsworthy because the hosts care about how these movies survive after opening weekend. The show also has a recurring fondness for the strange edges of pop culture: sneaker tie-ins, obscure streaming services, found-footage curiosities, subreddit horror, and physical releases with oddly specific bonus features. Its funniest moments come from casual disagreement, abrupt pivots, and the sense that a take is being built while the sentence is still happening. The criticism is informal, but it is not empty. Uncanny Universe keeps asking whether the excitement around a movie, show, trailer, or franchise move adds up to something worth watching.
Made for: Best for genre fans who track horror, superhero movies, franchise news, trailers, and physical-media releases. It especially suits listeners who like review conversations that feel quick, opinionated, and lightly messy.
What sets it apart: The show treats movie news and reviews as one continuous conversation, so a steelbook, trailer, casting update, or streaming oddity can matter as much as the headline release. Its edge is casual skepticism from people who clearly care, not detached prestige criticism.
