Listening guide

Finding the right College Football show for you

The best college football podcasts take a committee's bracket, a coach's offhand line or a recruit's campus visit and argue it into something you understand before Saturday comes around again. Lately much of that arguing circles one question: who gets in, and what a bigger playoff does to the weeks before it. A CastFox analysis in September 2026 reported Cover 3, Josh Pate's show and Joel Klatt's show all rising on Apple Podcasts charts as the season began.

The other argument is about form. Edison reported in June 2026 that weekly podcast consumers were about equally likely to watch as to listen. Several shows below go out live, with a chat feeding the hosts questions. Some listeners love that looseness; others want a tighter edit. The Football guide and the Sports category guide map the wider field. This page sorts college shows by the job they do.

The national conversation

The Audible with Stew, Bruce & Ralph: A show about college football sounds like reporters comparing notes. In CFP Bracket Live Reaction, the hosts guess the committee's choices. Then they read out replies from Twitter, from "process is still very broken" to "absolutely corrupt worst committee ever," and push back on some of them.

Until Saturday: A show about college football adds a former player to the reporting. In Week 1 PANIC BUTTON Teams + Saturday Superlatives! (2024-09-02), Damien Harris recalls games he played in where his team controlled play but the scoreboard didn't reflect it. It is a useful corrective for anyone who judged Oregon's Week 1 by the final score.

Josh Pate's College Football Show is one voice building a case. In Biggest CFP Lessons Learned + Notre Dame Drama & Big Ten vs SEC, Pate argues that a playoff spot requires a "minimum struggle requirement" that a schedule like James Madison's can't supply: "I don't care about what you're capable of. I care about what you earned." In CFP Predictions + Michigan Coaching Search & Heisman Reaction, a Post-it note carries the stat behind a matchup read: five mobile quarterbacks, 74 combined rushing yards against Miami.

The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast trades on occasion and access. It has staged live shows from Columbus and Madison with former players, and the Madison show included a Family Feud-style quiz played for a trophy. Big Noon Conversations: SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey on the Future of the Playoff & Scheduling in CFB (2023-06-26) is the steadier listen, turning to the football calendar and when players are free to move. It is conversation with the powerful, not cross-examination.

Numbers, lines and rosters

Winning Cures Everything | College Football is built for listeners who think in prices. ACC Chaos: Predictions, Picks & Best Bets (2026-07-21) calls Miami the league's easy answer and then spends its time on the hard ones. It notes that in one advanced rating, nine teams sit between 23rd and 47th. Its preseason read on Clemson: "At plus 1500 to win the league, that price is a lot more interesting than it was a year ago." Expect long, repeated sponsor reads in this episode. These are dated preseason predictions, and nothing here is advice to wager. For the pro game, there is the NFL Betting & Picks page.

Locked On College Football is a daily show hosted by Spencer McLaughlin. Near the end of SHOCKWAVE: Kentucky Football, Will Stein LAND 4-star QB Jake Nawrot in SEC Recruiting Victory (2026-04-13), he groups Texas A&M, Penn State and Oregon as "the Rory McIlroys of college football": programs still waiting on a breakthrough.

CFB Nation slows down for depth charts. Ranking The Top 10 Rosters In College Football (2026-04-08) defines an elite roster before ranking anyone. Its warning example is 2009 Notre Dame, which it says had an outstanding receiving corps and still finished 6-6.

Team feeds and the inside lane

Much of the field is local, and the pleasure is proximity. In Auburn Football Hosting Multiple Key Recruits At Spring Practice | The Corner Recruiting Show (2026-03-19), the Auburn Live Show panel debates which prospects belong in a mock class, and one host admits when his confidence is thin. In Notre Dame 6-pack: Latest from Marcus Freeman, night games in South Bend, MORE (2026-04-14), Blue & Gold Illustrated: Notre Dame Football And Recruiting moves from Freeman's bond with quarterback CJ Carr to an over/under on night games.

The Film Guy Network, The Georgia Show, Talk of Champions, On The Pony Express - SMU Mustangs Podcast and The OHIO Podcast do similar work for Georgia, Ole Miss, SMU and Ohio State. In FGN Live: Final Thoughts on G Day | Discord Q&A (2026-04-17), one host says he hadn't confirmed the severity of Amaris Williams's knee injury, and the panel weighs what an absence would mean.

Two shows take a conference-wide view. That SEC Football Podcast, with Mike Bratton and his cousin Shane, spends Predicting 10 Upsets For 2026 Season (2026-04-02) arguing its way toward a side bet over Texas. The Big Ten Huddle Podcast uses Why the NCAA Is Completely Clueless on Real Tampering + Private Equity Hits College Football (2026-04-15) to call the NCAA's penalty involving Kirk Ferentz theater.

All of these shows discuss the roster. For the pro side, there are the NFL Team Coverage page and the NFL Draft page.

Glossary

Terms worth knowing before you listen

College Football Playoff (CFP)

The postseason tournament determining the national champion. Expanded to 12 teams for the 2024 season, adding first-round byes for the top four seeds and four automatic berths for conference champions.

Transfer Portal

The NCAA database through which college athletes notify their school of intent to transfer. Since 2021, players can enter the portal without restrictions, allowing one transfer with immediate eligibility. Effectively resets program rosters every offseason.

NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness)

Rights allowing college athletes to earn compensation based on their personal brand — endorsements, appearances, and social-media deals — without losing eligibility. Came into effect July 2021 following NCAA policy changes and state legislation.

House Settlement

The House v. NCAA antitrust settlement (expected to take effect 2025) establishing a revenue-sharing framework allowing schools to pay athletes directly, with annual caps projected around $20 million per program. Reshapes how roster construction and scholarship commitments work.

Conference Realignment

The movement of programs between conferences — accelerating since 2021 — driven by television contract values. The SEC added Texas and Oklahoma (2024); the Big Ten added USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. The Pac-12 effectively dissolved.

Buyout

Contractual payment owed when a school dismisses a head coach before their contract expires, or when a coach leaves for another job. Buyouts have grown to multi-million-dollar figures at Power programs, making coaching changes increasingly expensive on both sides.
