Myopia Movies

Myopia Movies is a long-running panel show about movies that sit awkwardly between memory, cult reputation, franchise obligation, and actual quality. It is not gentle criticism. The recent episodes show a format built for fast riffs, incredulous plot summaries, and group fatigue when a film keeps making the same bad choice. Nick Hoffman leads many of the conversations, often with recurring panelists and guests moving in and out of the discussion. The show can be abrasive, but the target is usually the movie machinery: bloated sequels, cheap effects, confused scripts, dead-eyed nostalgia, and concepts that seem smarter than their execution. AI month brings Transcendence and Apex into the line of fire, with data centers, robot logic, Johnny Depp, and bargain-bin Terminator echoes all fair game. Franchise Town is another recurring destination. Freddy vs. Jason, Jurassic Park Rebirth, and Super Mario Bros. give the panel room to talk about brands that survive long after coherence has left the room. Holiday programming can get even harsher, as Eight Crazy Nights becomes a case study in animated miscalculation and seasonal misery. The show is not only a bad-movie roast, though. A Hitchcock episode on The 39 Steps shows the panel can shift into older film history, proto-Bond comparisons, and genre lineage when the movie earns a different register. That range matters. Myopia Movies works because it treats popular cinema as lived-in cultural clutter: childhood favorites, older myths, horror icons, failures, streaming originals, and audience-selected punishments all end up on the same table. The appeal is the room, not just the title under review. Listeners get recurring bits, panel banter, production trivia, and the satisfying sound of people refusing to let a movie coast on reputation.
