Two farm stories a week, explained properly.
The gist
Alice McFarlane hosts a twice-a-topic farm news show that moves from diesel prices and trade rulings to canola fertility and hog disease. Each episode leads with the headline, then hands the microphone to someone who works the file for a longer conversation.

About Agripod
Agripod is a weekly Canadian agriculture news show with a format it repeats because the format works. Alice McFarlane opens with a short read on the episode's two stories. Then the show breaks, and each story returns as a full interview with someone directly involved. That structure keeps the news current without sacrificing the depth a farm audience actually needs. The topic mix leans prairie. Diesel pricing turns up as a working cost, with the Vice President of the Canadian Fuels Association describing prices above two dollars a litre in parts of the country and connecting them to conflict abroad. Weed science gets its own segment, including a survey finding Canada ranks third in the world for herbicide-resistant weeds and estimating producer losses in the hundreds of millions annually. Trade is a constant. One episode examines supply management and how milk, eggs, chicken and turkey move through the Canadian system ahead of a trade agreement renegotiation. Another tracks China's ruling to sharply lower its anti-dumping rate on Canadian canola seed. A third looks at how retaliatory duties on pork could hit Canadian hog prices harder than duties running the other direction, since the delivered price is set south of the border. Agronomy segments stay concrete. A Canola Council of Canada specialist works through nitrogen alongside phosphorus, potassium, sulfur and micronutrients, framing the whole thing as a fertility and economics decision. A retired agronomist connects tariff uncertainty back to what a farmer should plant and how to keep more cash in pocket. Animal health lands here too, with Alberta Pork explaining how a case of porcine epidemic diarrhea was caught, reported and contained to a single site. The show also makes room for subjects a strict commodity podcast would skip. Mental health education in rural communities gets serious airtime through Do More Agriculture and its community fund. Nutrition appears via a registered dietitian on plant and animal protein and on stretching a meat budget. A microbiology professor covers fermentation, from preservation to flavour to the health claims now attached to it. The interviewing style is patient and never combative. McFarlane tends to ask a guest to back up and define the basics before going deeper, which makes dense policy accessible without talking down. Sentences are short, the reads are clean, and nothing is padded. Repeat episodes appear when the host is away, flagged plainly rather than disguised. The result is a regional farm broadcast that behaves like a briefing: two things worth knowing this week, explained by people who know them.
Made for: Canadian farmers, agronomists and agribusiness people who need trade, input-cost and crop-management news they can act on. Also suits anyone following prairie agriculture policy, commodity markets or rural community issues from outside the industry.
What sets it apart: Rather than skimming a dozen headlines, it commits each episode to exactly two subjects and gives both a full interview with a named specialist. The pairing is deliberately uneven — a market story next to mental health funding or fermented food — which widens the show past pure commodity coverage.
