Big Blue Banter grants the trade may be good value and then argues it makes Joe Schoen's 2026 job harder, since the Giants cannot compete without signing at least two experienced defensive tackles. That is the sound of New York listening: one team, one piece of front-office news, argued from several directions, with the general manager as the real subject. Nearly all of it is the city's pro teams; the exceptions are a Broadway critics' forum and an interview show from Beacon, New York.

What New York is

New York is a state in the northeastern United States, among the most populous in the country, running from Long Island and the Atlantic coast up the Hudson Valley to the Great Lakes and the Canadian border. New York City, at its southern end, is the largest city in the country and the home of the teams, theaters and broadcasters behind most of the audio on this page. The rest of the state, from Albany and the Adirondacks to Buffalo, is a different place at a different scale.

Football: general managers on trial

The Giants shows separate by method rather than allegiance. Big Blue Banter, from Blue Wire, is Dan Schneier and Nick Falato reading the team off All-22 film and analytics; in the draft run-up Bobby Skinner tells them Caleb Downs is the best player in the draft before the Giants pick fifth. The Jets shows come from different seasons and moods. Turn On The Jets is Will Parkinson's interview show, and its clips are spring 2025 contract and draft logic: Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic on why waiting on Garrett Wilson could turn a manageable contract into a Jamar Chase-sized expense, and Justin Fields as the flexibility that would spare the Jets from drafting Jackson Dart at seven. Knicks, Jets, Etc. is the December 2023 version of the same team, eliminated, without tackles or an easy quarterback answer, and where Turn On The Jets is warm and dry, this one is resigned and sarcastic; one of its titles from that season is "Just. End. The. Season. (Week 18)".

Baseball: a Yankees show that cannot enjoy a win, Mets shows that watch the farm

Yanks Go Yard, from FanSided, is Adam Weinrib and Thomas Carinante, and its most telling clip is the one where they admit how hard it was to make a podcast about a weekend the Yankees won: home opener dominated, a wild Saturday game, and yet every headline about the warts because of how it ended and because of the walks. The same agitated, well-informed register carries Weinrib on Jose Caballero's celebration at the Trop, undone when the Rays tied it on the very next pitch.

The Mets shows divide the work. Talkin' Mets is Mike Silva alone, stacking conditions before he commits to anything; its spring clips bring in Ernie Dove, introduced as a man with his pulse on the organization, naming Ryan Lambert, Dylan Ross, Chris Suero and Jacob Reimer as prospects who could force tough 40-man decisions by December, and by July the titles have moved on to "The Deadline that Defines the Mets". The Mets Pod is the two-person version, one thesis and one pushback, with spring-training interviews in which Andy Green says Carson Benge has "a genius" for keeping baseball simple. MetsMusings with Gary Mack sits in the hot stove instead, with Jeffrey Ballone arguing that Edwin Diaz leaving for $69 million is more frustrating than Pete Alonso's departure.

Basketball and hockey: two tempers at the Garden

Knicks Film School is the loud room. Its playoff-preview clip is a draft of the most important players in a Knicks-Hawks series, where someone confesses to loving Jordan Clarkson and hoping to regret not taking him, and where Katz argues Mitchell Robinson changes series because teams start scheming for his rebounding. The Putback with Ian Begley, on SNY, is the plainspoken beat version of the same team, with Brian Windhorst on why the Knicks check the boxes for a title team and could keep it together after a Finals run; its titles run through June into the draft, the second apron and free agency.

The Rangers shows circle the same off-season question: Vincent Trocheck, and what Chris Drury does next. New York Rangers: Under Review, with Jeff, Jack and Steven, argues Trocheck's trade value may be lower in summer yet the return could be better, and from December offers the diagnosis that the Rangers' fast players lack skill while their skilled players lack pace. Rink Rap, from Forever Blueshirts, is the season autopsy: Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin as "the two most irreplaceable New York Rangers this season", and 27 losses at Madison Square Garden set against a season-ending seven-game homestand that the kids juiced.

Boomer & Gio, Boomer Esiason's Audacy show, takes all the teams at once and puts callers on the air; its clips here are all UConn's Final Four win over Duke, 73-72 after a 1-for-18 start from three, including Raj, who missed it for his son's birthday and followed the score on his phone.

Off the field: a critics' table and Beacon

CUNY TV's Theater Talk is a table rather than a host: people ask, answer with context, then test each other's claims. Its episodes here are from 2018. Ethan Mordden makes the case that Chicago is a perfect satiric score built from Sophie Tucker, Eddie Cantor and Ted Lewis, and that the Carousel bench scene works because Billy and Julie fall in love through argument rather than a quick hookup. In the Renée Taylor episode, John Simon argues, quoting Pauline Kael, that without critics the theater would depend on press agents.

Beaconites! is the show on this page about somewhere in New York other than the city: Beacon, and the people who live there.
