What Dallas sounds like on its podcasts
In the run-up to the draft, the Cowboys shows on this page converge on one argument: what to do with two first-round picks. Locked On Cowboys - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Cowboys has three mock drafters independently sending Dallas up to pick six for Sonny Styles. Cowboys Chat With Schap runs the board through a trade chart and concludes that nobody in the class justifies sending both firsts to number three. Cowboys Break weighs two firsts and $40 million against George Pickens, then reads the quote on the record: "we've had no one call with interest in George Pickens". Cowboys Ranch Report is on the edge rushers, where Reuben Bain's short arms do not cancel a college career as "the best pass rusher in the nation".
That is the dominant sound. Football takes up most of the shows about Dallas and nearly everything filed under Sports; the Stars have rooms of their own, the Mavericks have Mavs Step Back Podcast, and the rest is local news, civic conversation and a courtroom in 1964. What a listener hears most is Cowboys paperwork: picks, tags, cap sheets, coordinator hires.
What Dallas is
Dallas anchors the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in North Texas, one of the largest urban areas in the United States, and is the home market of the Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks. It is also where President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, which is why a 1964 murder trial sits beside the sports shows here.
The Cowboys: front office and fan rooms
Beyond the draft board, the thread running through the most shows is the front office. Jacques Talk, from Jean-Jacques Taylor, is where Jerry Jones gets quoted and then argued with: Jones at the combine admitting he "underestimated the nickelback position", and Taylor finding too many misses in the 2023 and 2024 draft classes. It wanders to its points through restarts, asides and quick questions between people who know the league and each other.
The Christian Parker hire as defensive coordinator gets worked from several angles: Cowboys Talk sets it against a defense that finished last in points allowed and reads a blog's three reasons to like it on air, One Star Cowboys Podcast frames Parker as an "under 40" hire whose staff build changed when Aaron Whitecotton left, and Cowboys Break, published by the Dallas Cowboys, has the version in which Parker makes players explain the why, not just the assignment.
The team's own rooms sound like the building. Dallas Cowboys Podcasts moves through rotating voices, quick corrections and caller handoffs, its titles a hallway of strands (Draft Show, Player's Lounge, Somos Cowboys Radio, Cowboys StoryLine) in which the Player's Lounge drifts well off football; one clip is entirely about Anthony Davis, Caruso and who earned a real ring. Talkin' Cowboys, from the Star in Frisco, is a panel that trades jokes and then locks into mechanics: 13 wide receivers for four or five spots on the team, and three games in 12 days with a 12-hour flight each way to Rio de Janeiro.
The fan rooms are louder. Cowboys Raw & Uncut is a roomful of people arguing through the anxiety in bursts, profane and fan-native; its clips catch the walk-off win over the Eagles from 21-0 down, a defense that "saved the game" while the offense still had to finish it, and a camp presser where Jerry Jones says Micah Parsons is "under contract" while the crew keeps pressing for a new deal. Boys Will Be Boys is where the Cowboys are an untrustworthy team that makes emotional investment dangerous to your health. One Star Cowboys Podcast is two people building the argument in real time, from Jimmy Johnson's fury at the Belichick Hall of Fame voters to the 2023 season ranked among the franchise's top three missed opportunities.
The Stars, from the gut to the tape
Hockey here is postgame reaction. Starcastic Remarks starts from the gut and works into the tape, frustrated, sarcastic and relieved by turns: a 6-4 loss to the Devils, four first-period goals allowed for the first time in four years, is "utterly terrible how they did it here tonight". Its titles carry episode numbers and follow an April series against the Minnesota Wild game by game to a first-round exit. Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars reaches back to the May 2025 Game 6 win over Winnipeg that sent Dallas to the Western Conference Final: Jake Oettinger stopping Kyle Connor point-blank, and a team that once could not buy an overtime win having "kind of got that clutch gene".
The Mavericks, mid-rebuild
Mavs Step Back Podcast, from Dalton Trigg, sounds like two deeply plugged-in fans willing to plant a flag, and the point it keeps planting is Cooper Flagg: the clip where he becomes the youngest player in NBA history to score 51 points sits beside the tank standings, and an earlier one has Mark Cuban telling Trigg the Mavericks are "so back" and not trading the No. 1 pick. The titles move from Flagg's final stretch of the season to Jason Kidd's exit, Masai Ujiri's arrival as team president and the 2026 draft.
Off the field
KRLD All Local, from Audacy, speaks like a newsroom in motion, jumping between hard news, local color, business and traffic-and-weather utility. Its clips have diesel near $6 a gallon and about to surface as restaurant surcharges, with the advice "Pack lightly"; an Allen Control Systems drone-killer called Bullfrog priced at "less than $10 per kill"; and the Karmelo Anthony trial, where the jury ended up entirely white after three Black women teachers were struck. Its titles go wherever North Texas does, from a Wylie City Council vote on Flock to a rap war on the streets of Dallas.
Deconstructing Dallas, with Shawn Williams and Ryan Trimble, is the long-conversation counterpart: politics, government, sports and entertainment, all things Dallas and Texas. Its clips come from the quieter end of that, Mahiri Takai on the kitchen as a healing space where fathers and children repair what they could not say, and Cullum Clark, in "The Rise of the Dallas Economy with Cullum Clark", telling entrepreneurs to read massively, listen carefully, work hard and stay nimble.
One trial, day by day
Jack Ruby - The Trial of the Century is the one show here set in the city's past: the March 1964 trial of the nightclub owner who killed Lee Harvey Oswald on live television while Oswald was in Dallas police custody, with titles dated to trial days, "March 13th, 1964: Closing Arguments" among them. Its clips have seven Dallas County Jail prisoners escaping mid-trial with a soap pistol and razor blades, and Belli calling the verdict a "kangaroo railroad" and saying Dallas should be ashamed of its jury.
