What you'll hear on PRX podcasts

Come looking for a PRX explainer and you will come away empty-handed. Coverage is thin: the name surfaces around shows and productions, but no episode here puts PRX in its title. Listening is less like following an argument about the organization than noticing it at the edge of several very different kinds of audio.

Where the mentions lead

Radiotopia Presents offers the clearest sense of the surrounding creative territory. It is an anthology feed with a patient, scene-first public-radio style, moving between documentary and narrative work. Among the episodes identifying the pieces being presented are Prophets of Technology from TED Radio Hour and Helene's Deadly Warning from NPR's Up First, though neither turns toward PRX itself.

The Selects Podcast is more deliberately curatorial and experimental. A Woman on the Ice by Rikke Houd for Third Ear (subtitled by Radio Atlas) *Video Podcast* and S.E.I.N.F.E.L.D. by Ross Sutherland suggest a feed interested in unusual forms, translated work and the texture of listening. Again, the PRX mention remains peripheral.

Elsewhere, the distance grows. Reveal Presents (Investigations) builds patient reported narratives such as After Ayotzinapa Chapter 2: The Cover-Up. The Kitchen Sisters Present moves through literary documentary in Bone Music - A Collaboration with 99% Invisible. Everything is Alive commits to quiet absurdity in Louis, Can of Cola. These shows demonstrate the breadth of audio around the mention, not sustained coverage of PRX.

Where to start

For anthology-style public radio, begin with Radiotopia Presents and Prophets of Technology from TED Radio Hour. For investigative storytelling, try Reveal Presents (Investigations) with After Ayotzinapa Chapter 2: The Cover-Up. If experimental audio is the draw, choose The Selects Podcast and S.E.I.N.F.E.L.D. by Ross Sutherland. None is a PRX primer; they are the most useful paths into the kinds of listening where the name appears.
