About Via lliure - Il·lustres execrables
Via lliure - Il·lustres execrables is a comic historical file room with the cabinet doors kicked open. Its subjects are illustrious only until the evidence arrives. Then the honorific starts to curdle. The show works through biographies of people who gathered power, fame, mythology, or political protection, and it keeps asking what was hiding behind the polished version. The method is brisk and argumentative. Facts land, jokes interrupt them, somebody corrects a pronunciation or a premise, and the story lurches forward with more force than neatness. Hong Xiuquan is treated through the colossal violence of the Taiping Rebellion, his religious claims, and the bizarre improvisations around Christian ritual in China. The scale is huge, but the telling keeps pulling it back into incredulous banter. Chuck Norris gets a different kind of takedown. The show looks at martial arts credibility, the Bruce Lee connection, the famous Coliseum fight in The Fury of the Dragon, and the gap between action charisma and acting range. It also understands the later joke-machine that made Norris into something bigger and sillier than a performer. Umberto Bossi gives the series one of its natural habitats: politics that sells itself as anti-corruption while growing comfortable around corruption. Mani Polite, Lega Nord, envelopes of money, party reinvention, and Matteo Salvini all become parts of the same sour comic mechanism. Cristóbal Martínez-Bordiú brings the show into Francoist family privilege, monarchy anxieties, infidelity, propaganda, and the self-inflating myths of a regime-connected doctor. Bobby Kennedy is handled with similar impatience toward sainthood. The episode follows arrogance, Roy Cohn, Edgar Hoover, anti-communist machinery, civil rights memory, the presidential campaign, and assassination without letting martyrdom erase contradiction. The pleasure is not neutrality. It is a sharp, informed refusal to let public legends remain tidy. The show suits listeners who like history with elbows, politics with punch lines, and biographies that get less flattering as they get more specific. It can be chaotic, but the chaos has a job. It makes prestige sound ridiculous when prestige deserves it.
Made for: For listeners who like political history, scandalous biography, and Catalan-Spanish banter delivered at speed. It suits people who enjoy irreverent context more than solemn commemoration.
What sets it apart: The show pairs historical detail with loose, teasing interruption, so the comedy rarely floats free of the facts. Its best trick is making grand public myths sound small, vain, and very human.
