About The Midnight Train Podcast
The Midnight Train Podcast is a dark comedy show about the creepy, tragic, unexplained, and historically bizarre. Its world is full of poisoners, missing children, alleged underworld entrances, mass graves, ancient ruins, odd weapons, feral children, and legends that still feel uncomfortably close. Jonathan Sayre and Mr. Moody bring the subjects forward with a deliberately loose rhythm. The research matters. So does the interruption. Episodes often start with a familiar train-themed welcome, then move into long-form storytelling that keeps making room for side comments, jokes, corrections, and disbelief. That combination gives the show its shape: heavy subjects, handled with restless humor and a lot of conversational static. In the Black Widows episode, the story of Nanny Doss and other alleged poisoners becomes both grim case history and a running exchange about arsenic, mugshots, and how ordinary tools can become terrifying. In Gates To Hell, myth and geography meet cave mouths, Hades worship, Cape Tainaron, and the human habit of naming dangerous edges as portals. The Amy Mihaljevic episode is more sober, centered on deception, fear, Bay Village, Ohio, and the long ache of unanswered questions. Then the show can pivot to the Paris Gun, the Duck Foot Pistol, or another strange device from military history and find the absurdity inside human invention. It also takes on subjects with real collective weight, including tsunami burials, Sri Lankan mass graves, and disappearances in Ireland's Vanishing Triangle. The tone is not tidy. It rambles, laughs, doubles back, and sometimes lets the room get very quiet before a joke breaks the pressure. That looseness is a feature for listeners who want research delivered through personality rather than a museum-label script. The show is especially suited to people who like true crime and paranormal history but do not need solemnity every minute. It is skeptical enough to question the legend, interested enough to follow it into the cave, and informal enough to admit when a name or concept is giving the hosts trouble. The recurring passenger language, Patreon roll calls, and closing rituals give it a clubby, long-running feel. Newcomers should expect rough language and bleak topics. They should also expect curiosity, empathy when the story demands it, and a refusal to let darkness become stiff.
Made for: For listeners who like true crime, paranormal history, oddball research, and unsolved mysteries with blunt comic banter. It best suits people comfortable with dark subjects discussed in an informal, irreverent style.
What sets it apart: The show keeps researched macabre storytelling and chaotic co-host chemistry in the same room. It can move from Hades shrines to missing-person investigations to strange wartime weapons without losing its barroom-on-a-haunted-train texture.
