So Wizard Podcast

So Wizard is a long-running weekly film review podcast produced by Unfiltered Studios, sitting somewhere past episode six hundred and still built on the same simple idea: three friends watch a movie and then argue about it. Joey DeCarlo hosts. Aubrey Litchfield is introduced every week as the queen of all nerds. Markellus Reagan is billed as the expert. The cold open never changes, a rapid-fire montage of sci-fi references delivered like a radio station ident, and regulars will know it by heart. What follows is a check-in on everyone's week, which is where a lot of the show's personality lives. From there the review begins. The hosts give their broad take first, no spoilers, so anyone still planning to buy a ticket can make a decision. Then comes an explicit cue to bounce, and the spoiler section opens with the things they liked before moving to the complaints. That ordering matters. It keeps the show from curdling into pure negativity even when a film has clearly annoyed them. Markellus tends toward the positive read, which gives the panel a built-in counterweight, and the disagreements feel genuine rather than staged. The slate is deliberately unsnobby. A Super Mario Galaxy movie sits alongside Scream 7, a Netflix feature, a horror release, and Hard to Be a God, the sort of dense art film that prompts them to call in their friend Amanda for anything approaching Oscar conversation. Guests step in when one of the regulars is away on assignment, usually drawn from other shows in the podcasting world. The digressions are half the appeal. One episode turns into an extended, exasperated account of a cinema audience that narrated the entire film out loud. Another covers the strain of editing after the group added a video version for their Patreon supporters, plus the small hobbies that keep everyone sane: jiu jitsu, band practice, and in Markellus's case, apparently editing itself. There is a bit about the sorry state of a local big-box store that has nothing to do with movies and works anyway. Language is frank and unbleeped, which is the point of the network name. Listeners who want measured criticism in a considered register should look elsewhere. Listeners who want honest, funny, spoiler-heavy conversation from people who see everything and hide nothing will find a show that has been doing exactly that, week after week, for hundreds of episodes. Episodes close the way they open, with the same round of nicknames and a send-off wishing everyone a good journey.
