Ships of Chaos is a fanfiction read-along presented by Jonny and Justina, and the reading is only half the appeal. The other half is the running commentary. Episodes open on a scripted welcome that treats the listener like a passenger boarding a ship. A captain and a first mate are introduced, adult situations and themes are flagged, and there is a gentle suggestion to be careful about listening in public. A note follows that the stories and characters belong to other people. Then the pair catch up. Jonny has a new job and a 45-minute drive to get there. One episode lands a week late after a rough stretch for him, another is recorded on new software the two are still working out, and one carries the title 'Episode 1.23 or The One with the Audio Issues'. The fiction in this stretch is romance. Episodes 3.1 to 3.4 read The Spaces Between the Notes, a Twilight story by Lyrical Chris, who is thanked by name for permission to share it. Bella falls for Carlisle Cullen, cast as a rock star. She is turned away from a 21-plus club, trades shouts with her father over the phone, and watches Carlisle perform from just off the stage, steered there by a teasing Alistair. The pair do not read straight through. They stop to ask what was said at dinner in the previous chapter. They debate whether Bella is rebelling against Charlie or really in love, note that she and the rock star have met only twice, and say so when her youth and the speed of it make them uneasy. There is an episode called '3.3 - or Jess questions love at first sight.' One of them has read the story before and hints at time jumps ahead; the other simply wants to see where it ends up. Other fandoms keep slipping in. A bouncer in the Twilight story gets pitched as Derek, partly for the muscles and partly because the last fic one of them read made him a bouncer too. In 'Episode 2.6 or Jonny talks about crack ships', the conversation takes in terrible fanfic from Harry Potter and Teen Wolf, 50 Shades making plenty of money anyway, and a story that lifts Ross and Rachel's pregnancy plot from Friends. Someone has been practicing voices ahead of the Twilight reading. The show also tends its own corner of fandom, with talk of a Facebook group, promos, and a planned special 420 episode in which Jonny does the reading. Listeners are 'Chaotix', and the sign-offs promise another 'Chaotic Thursday'. For a first listen, 'Episode 3.1 - Wrong Wrong Wrong' is where the pair welcome everyone to the start of this story.
