About Radio Vostok - La Quotidienne

Radio Vostok - La Quotidienne is a cultural magazine with a local pulse and a wide field of attention. It is rooted in Geneva and nearby scenes, but it does not treat local culture as small. A basement venue, a collective exhibition, a film festival section, or a newly released album can become the centre of a larger argument about taste, access, memory, and artistic identity. The music coverage is especially alert to hybrid sounds. Nubiyan Twist’s Chasing Shadows is heard through hip-hop, soul, reggae, afrobeat, jazz labeling, collaboration, and groove rather than reduced to one genre tag. Première Loge brings a more conversational rap-focused register, with Housmatikee discussing short EPs, release rhythm, Instagram visibility, and the value of letting quality circulate by word of mouth. The show also spends time with cultural infrastructure. Canal 54 appears not only as a club, but as a public living space for alternative and electronic music, artist exchange, and free access. Visual art enters through interviews with Maud Rennevier and Sian USK around Bacoté, where transformation, performance, friendship, memory, and self-recognition sit close to the work itself. Broader cultural reporting comes through the Simone Weil pavilion, where Thomas Hirschhorn’s artistic ecosystem opens questions about public education, expression, neighborhood politics, and attention. Cinema and documentary are treated with similar seriousness. Vision du Réel becomes a way to discuss hybrid documentary forms, archives, authoritarianism, and the relation between past and present, while a dinosaur series prompts both real admiration for visual craft and dry skepticism about overblown suspense. The program’s personality comes from that mix: informed, slightly irreverent, and willing to admire something while still naming what feels overstated. It is not a narrow music show. It is a map of contemporary culture as it passes through songs, rooms, festivals, ideas, and the people trying to make space for them.

Made for: For listeners who follow music, art, film, festivals, and Geneva’s alternative cultural life with more than casual interest. It especially suits people who like criticism with context and interviews that leave room for process.

What sets it apart: The show connects underground music and local cultural reporting with broader questions about artistic form, public space, and memory. Its range is unusually elastic without feeling random.
