Movie talk, barely a review.
The gist
Netflix Book Club treats each selected film as the starting point for fast, messy conversation. Mike Tuohy and Dennis Rooney move from courtroom morals, old Hollywood epics, Stephen King endings, and Paul Thomas Anderson choices into personal stories and running jokes.

About Netflix Book Club
Netflix Book Club is a comedy-forward film conversation built around movies in the Netflix orbit. It has the shape of a review show and keeps insisting it is not one. Mike Tuohy and Dennis Rooney talk through each selection with the looseness of people recording late, remembering half the details, and still landing on firm reactions. The films range widely. Recent episodes move from Spartacus and Nuremberg to Train Dreams, Hamnet, Licorice Pizza, The Princess Bride, Misery, and A Few Good Men. That spread gives the show room to swing between old Hollywood spectacle, courtroom drama, literary adaptation, romantic unease, horror pressure, and comfort-movie nostalgia. The hosts can be serious for a minute. Then the bit takes over. Spartacus becomes a conversation about overtures, intermissions, bans, blacklists, and the scale of mid-century epics. Nuremberg prompts blunt moral talk about Nazis and the emotional weight of watching a somber film right before recording. Train Dreams brings in book-versus-film changes, Nick Cave, Oscar viewing, and the misery of frontier life. Hamnet turns into a guest-driven sad-movie pivot with Will Papora back in the room. Licorice Pizza gets treated through discomfort with its age dynamic, Paul Thomas Anderson chatter, and a running joke about the show's own identity. The Princess Bride episode favors remembered scenes, clever reversals, and the odd way childhood favorites can disappear for years. Misery gives Shosh Broadman space for writerly anxiety, Broadway memories, and jokes about whether a burned manuscript might have been overrated. A Few Good Men lets them talk Code Reds, moral courage, hotshot-lawyer arcs, and Rob Reiner movies. The show is not especially tidy. That is part of its appeal. It works for listeners who want opinion, looseness, and comic momentum more than plot recap. The best moments happen when a stray detail opens into an argument, a personal story, or a ridiculous detour that somehow circles back to the movie.
Made for: For listeners who like film conversations with comic tangents, blunt reactions, and enough actual criticism to keep the chaos grounded. It suits people who enjoy hearing friends argue through movies more than polished recap.
What sets it apart: Netflix Book Club stands out by treating movie discussion as a hangout with recurring bits, schedule chatter, guest energy, and abrupt shifts from serious themes to absurd side roads. The analysis is casual, but the opinions are specific.
