About make joy normal: cozy homeschooling

make joy normal: cozy homeschooling is a reflective, faith-centered show about home education as a way of life. It is not narrowly about curriculum. The episodes return again and again to the bigger question of how a family grows in joy, steadiness, and love while moving through ordinary messy days. Bonnie speaks from deep lived experience as a Catholic homeschooling mom who homeschooled seven children all the way through and now looks back from a later stage of family life. That gives the show a long horizon. Younger parents hear practical encouragement, while parents of teens and older children get language for seasons that are harder to plan for. The tone is gentle. It also stays honest. A short response to a listener with unmotivated older children names the fear that can come when teens resist school and the usual punishments or goals stop working. A three-part conversation with Dr. Deborah MacNamara brings developmental thinking to relationship, behavior, resilience, and discipline, especially the idea that discipline gives children time to mature. Episodes on suffering and marriage shift from homeschooling mechanics into Catholic reflection, asking how loss, sadness, failure, and perseverance can become part of family life rather than interruptions to it. The show often notices small, concrete practices. Long summer breaks matter. Time outside matters. Gardens, lake days, photo books, anniversary memories, and children leaving home all become part of the same conversation about formation. Guest interviews add outside perspective without changing the intimate pace. Josée Bergeron’s conversation about nature, struggle, and getting outside shows the show’s preference for small doable steps over parental shame. This is a podcast for parents who want warmth without denial. It takes joy seriously, but it does not flatten grief, resistance, discipline, or exhaustion. Its editorial center is cozy in the best sense: close to home, attentive to children, and willing to make faith and daily life speak to each other.

Made for: Parents considering or practicing homeschooling, especially those drawn to faith-shaped family life, relational discipline, and gentler home rhythms. It also suits parents of older children who want perspective on teens, children leaving home, and changing family seasons.

What sets it apart: The show combines practical homeschooling experience with Catholic reflection and a long view of family life after raising seven children. It is unusually comfortable holding joy and hardship in the same conversation.

In their own words

In the context of promoting joy, fun and an environment of love, Bonnie welcomes you! Bonnie is a homeschool mom of seven kids, 32 years in - writer, speaker and cheerleader. Meet her cohosts who bring your questions and theirs to the table: Elizabeth, mom of six, in the thick of glorious family life, and Christina, just starting the homeschool journey with three littles. Join us for some honest discussion about how to make home education cozy. Just like you imagined.
