Twin Cities law, politics, and sharp table talk.
The gist
Holding Court Podcast mixes courtroom talk, Minnesota politics, true-crime adjacent interviews, and loose radio-table banter. It is sharp, local, and comfortable moving from a fatal police shooting to campaign talk to rock history without pretending those worlds are separate.

About Holding Court Podcast
Holding Court Podcast is a Twin Cities conversation show with one foot in the courtroom and the other in the booth. Its regular terrain is law, politics, crime, media, sports, and the local characters who make those subjects less abstract. The show does not behave like a tidy news briefing. It starts with irritation, teasing, a sponsor read, a technical complaint, or somebody needling somebody else, then works its way toward the case or controversy on the table. That looseness is part of the point. The Jamar Clark case becomes a discussion about charging decisions, police accountability, public fear, and what people think they saw versus what can be proved. The Mall of America protest and the Barway Collins case land as arguments about prosecutors and judgment. National politics enters through Minnesota doorways, with Michael Brodkorb on Jason Lewis, down-ballot races, Donald Trump, and the language politicians use when fear is running hot. Crime material can get heavier. The Kevin Weeks interview connects Whitey Bulger, Black Mass, FBI corruption, and murder pleas without sanding off the ugliness. Dean Strang’s Making a Murderer appearance brings trial-law celebrity into a room still thinking like lawyers. Then, just when the docket seems set, the show wanders into Minnesota rock history, The Eagles, Bobby V, or Ron Coomer talking baseball. That range gives Holding Court its odd shape. It is serious, but not solemn for long. It is opinionated, but usually through practical questions rather than polished speeches. The memorial episode for Ron Rosenbaum adds another register entirely, showing how much of the show’s force came from personality, friendship, argument, and a gift for making law and politics legible to ordinary people. Listeners looking for clean chronology may find it unruly. Listeners who like informed local talk with jokes still stuck to the edges will understand the appeal quickly.
Made for: Best for listeners who already enjoy legal argument, Minnesota politics, true-crime context, and unscripted public-affairs talk. It suits people who prefer informed friction over polished neutrality.
What sets it apart: Holding Court stands apart because its legal and political conversations feel personally rooted in the Twin Cities rather than processed through national pundit habits. The show can mourn, argue, joke, and cross-examine in the same hour.
In their own words
Ron Rosenbaum, attorney, longtime radio host and true Twin Cities character and his co-host, journalist Lucy Quinlivan, are Holding Court Thursdays at 2 p.m.The two outspoken hosts pontificate weekly on topics ranging from law and politics to media, sports and entertainment.

- Ron Rosenbaum pushing a gun debate past slogans and asking what either camp can actually explain
- to weigh the arguments around the Jamar Clark charging decision instead of just absorbing a verdict
