About Gameromancer, il podcast videoludicamente scorretto
Gameromancer is an Italian videogame criticism panel with the volume set high and the patience set low. It is not chaotic because it lacks ideas; it is chaotic because every idea gets challenged before it can sit down. The show works best when a messy joke opens a trapdoor into a real design argument. Recent episodes show that range clearly. A grab-bag of indie games becomes a discussion of card mechanics, grid combat, skeuomorphism, Loop Hero, Chain of Memories, and Neon White. A promised episode on agency turns into a fight over what player choice actually means when Deus Ex offers an act without visible consequence or Prey lets the player solve a room through improvised tools. The panel is interested in the feeling of outsmarting a game, even when the designers plainly left the door unlocked. It also has room for heavier material. Episodes consider apocalypse fantasies, climate critique inside pop videogame structures, death and mourning in game worlds, end-of-life themes, and the school system around Brawl Stars-age students. Those subjects are not handled with clean solemnity. They arrive beside insults, title jokes, Patreon bits, interruptions, and sudden pivots into media criticism. That tension is the show's texture. It can praise Omega Force's sincerity, complain about shallow anti-woke readings, argue about reaction content, and reassess Bloodborne as both masterpiece and artifact of a particular From Software culture. Gameromancer often sounds like a debate that keeps nearly crashing, then recovers because someone has a concrete example. It distrusts polished objectivity and prefers situated judgment. It is strongest when the panel moves from a private irritation to a larger claim about games, criticism, labor, politics, or fandom. The tone is blunt and irreverent, but the game talk is rarely empty. Under the noise is a recurring belief that games matter because players experience them personally, not because a market category says so.
Made for: For Italian-speaking players who like criticism that is argumentative, specific, and allergic to press-release calm. Best for listeners comfortable with rough humor, fast interruptions, and serious subjects handled without much polish.
What sets it apart: Gameromancer stands apart by letting table chaos and close design reading occupy the same space. It tests abstractions like agency, criticism, capitalism, and grief against named games and remembered mechanics instead of flattening them into review scores.
In their own words
Arte. E in quanto arte assolutamente personali.
