About Closing Bell

Closing Bell is live stock market coverage centred on the close, and its feed holds two programs, one on each side of the bell. The first covers the final hour of trading, live from Post 9 at the New York Stock Exchange, and is called the make-or-break hour on air. Scott Wapner does the welcoming. On one April day, Frank Holland sits in for 'the judge', as Wapner is called on air. The hour moves through a scorecard with 60 minutes to go in regulation: the Dow, the S&P and the Nasdaq, then the sectors doing the moving. On one of those afternoons, oil plunged after Iran's foreign minister called the Strait of Hormuz completely open, and cruise lines and airlines rebounded on the news. Then comes the 'talk of the tape', a single framing question for guests. The questions are practical ones. Is a record-setting rally worth chasing? What should an investor do at record highs? How best to proceed in an unsettled, uncertain market? Anastasia Amoroso of Partners Group takes the first of those at Post 9, and Rick Reeder, BlackRock's CIO of Global Fixed Income, is introduced as the headliner for the last. Washington reporting feeds in too, including Megan Casella in the D.C. bureau on a headline about a deal to end the war taking longer than many had anticipated. Closing Bell Overtime is the second program, live from Studio B at the Nasdaq Market Site as the bell rings and the companies ringing it at each exchange are named. Melissa Lee and Mike Santoli share that hour. Earnings drive it: Netflix and Alcoa numbers are promised as soon as they cross, and the Alcoa CEO is booked to discuss results and the steel and aluminum outlook. Overtime also makes room for longer reads, such as a guest named Jason gaming out three paths for the strait: permanent peace, a tenuous ceasefire or continued conflict. Single stocks get the same scrutiny, as in a back-and-forth over whether Target is cheap again on a forward earnings basis. Milestones are marked as they land, including the S&P 500's first close above 7,000 and a Nasdaq winning streak closing in on a record last set in 1992. The delivery is brisk and fluent and full of trader shorthand, with a line in the sand here and a tech group described as a ripper there. There is room for an aside about fund managers all leaning on Moneyball in their investment letters. Overtime signs off by handing over to Fast Money. A good way in is the pair dated 4/16/26, 'Closing Bell: What to Do at Record Highs 4/16/26' and 'Markets Hit New Highs; Netflix, Alcoa Sink After Earnings 4/16/26', which cover both sides of a single session's bell.

Made for: Suits a listener who follows individual stocks and the major indexes closely and wants the end of each session called live, with earnings and war-driven oil moves covered as they happen.

What sets it apart: Two live programs share one feed: a final-hour show at the New York Stock Exchange, built around a single 'talk of the tape' question, and an after-the-bell hour at the Nasdaq that takes earnings as they cross. Each title carries its session date, so the feed also works as a dated record of trading days.
