About Blethered
Blethered is a long-form interview show where Scottish humour sits beside unusually open conversation. It is relaxed, but not lightweight. Sean McDonald talks with guests from sport, comedy, public life, finance, meditation, and personal recovery, often using everyday language to reach subjects that are harder than they first appear. One episode follows Angela Landers through Transcendental Meditation, dreams, spirituality, and the appeal of going inward when modern life feels excessive. Another tracks Derek McEwan’s world of endurance, fundraising, fitness tourism, and the social performance around extreme physical challenges. Edward Kelly and Stephen Wright bring the show into investment, tax pressure, ethics, pensions, and the lack of financial education many people grow up with. Tylan Williams’s conversation is more visceral, shaped by paralysis after a motorcycle accident and the work of finding perspective inside a radically changed body. Billy Porter’s episode moves from Glasgow comedy to vulnerability, professionalism, and the service entertainers can offer to people in pain. Aarti Joshi appears in a discussion touching on blame and public anger. The John Swinney episode moves into Scottish public life, young men, masculinity, radicalisation, sextortion, and domestic violence. Across these conversations, Blethered keeps returning to responsibility, resilience, belief, embarrassment, pressure, and the odd consolations of humour. It is not a clipped celebrity-interview format. The appeal is in the looseness: a guest can explain the practical detail of their world, then suddenly land on a moment of fear, gratitude, or self-recognition. The show suits listeners who want personality in serious interviews, and who do not mind a conversation taking the scenic route to get somewhere honest.
Made for: For listeners who like candid interview podcasts about lived experience, public issues, resilience, money, comedy, spirituality, and Scottish culture. It suits people who want emotional honesty without a polished self-help tone.
What sets it apart: Blethered stands apart through its mix of blunt Glasgow warmth, broad guest range, and willingness to let difficult subjects breathe inside casual conversation. Heavy topics are handled with curiosity, humour, and room for contradiction.
