Architecture as argument, archive, and lived space.
The gist

About ArchitectureTalk
ArchitectureTalk is a rigorous interview series about architecture, modernism, and the difficult work of thinking historically about buildings. It is not design inspiration audio. The show treats architecture as a field where drawings, archives, cities, political fantasies, bodily habits, and institutional power all collide. Recent episodes linger over South Asia, especially Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, decolonization, and the long shadow of European modernism. Pierre Jeanneret becomes a way to ask how an office functioned, how work moved through language barriers, and how architecture was taught by drawing, example, and practice. B.V. Doshi's houses and Sangat office become entry points into Vastu Shastra, energy, memory, Corbusier, imitation, refusal, and the search for an Indian architectural syntax. Ijlal Muzaffar's Modernism's Magic Hat opens a harder argument about development, self-help, moral hierarchy, debt, and the theology hidden inside planning. Anthony Vidler's conversations stretch from Enlightenment thought and Foucault to Essex churches, bicycle escape, Ledoux, Fourier, Adorno, catastrophe, and postwar architectural history. Discussions around MoMA's Project of Independence exhibition press on what it means to stage South Asian decolonization from a major Western museum. David Stein's episode returns to Joseph Allen Stein, New Delhi, and the Nehruvian period through family memory and architectural legacy. The rhythm is brisk. Guests often speak at length, but the show keeps interrupting the drift of theory with concrete questions. What building? What archive? What office? What exact historical condition? That insistence gives the show its charge. It can be dry, teasing, grave, and affectionate within the same exchange. The intellectual vocabulary is serious, but the conversations are not sealed off from ordinary scenes: food, childhood, family, travel, classrooms, and jokes slip into the argument. ArchitectureTalk is strongest for listeners who want architecture discussed as a cultural and political practice, not just as form. It rewards patience with dense thought, but it also values the blunt question that cuts through it. The result is a show where architectural history feels unsettled, personal, and still under active dispute.
Made for: For architects, students, historians, curators, and serious architecture listeners who enjoy theory when it is tied to specific buildings, cities, and archives. It also suits anyone interested in South Asian modernism, decolonization, and the politics of design.
What sets it apart: ArchitectureTalk stands apart by pushing high theory into concrete architectural cases instead of leaving it as polished abstraction. Its interviews allow scholarly depth while keeping the conversation restless, interruptive, and anchored in practice.
In their own words
Designed around an engaging conversation, Architecture Talk explores issues in contemporary architecture and architectural thinking. It is hosted by Vikram Prakash, Professor of Architecture at the University of Washington in Seattle.
