Nearly everything playable here is somebody arguing about the Steelers. The quarterback room, the draft board, what Mike McCarthy is building, whether Aaron Rodgers signs, waits, retires or never comes to Pittsburgh at all: the same handful of questions get worked over by team-radio hours, newspaper and network reporters, and fan panels that talk over each other. The Penguins are a clear second beat, mostly through Sidney Crosby. The Pirates come up the way a sore subject comes up. Off the field the scene on this page is small next to the sports side, and it runs through City Cast Pittsburgh.

What Pittsburgh is

Pittsburgh is the largest city in western Pennsylvania, set where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio. Its name is still tied to the steel industry that built it, and its three major-league teams, the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, all wear black and gold.

The Steelers on team radio

Steelers Standard, SNR Drive, Steelers Blitz and In the Locker Room share a local-radio pulse: loose, unscripted, comfortable spending a few minutes on stadium food or traffic before tightening into football. Steelers Standard's clips run from Troy Fautanu possibly being on an all-pro track at right tackle, to quarterback as the team's one glaring spot, to the 700,000 people who could flood the city when the NFL Draft kicks off outside Acrisure Stadium; the moment the feed plays walks back through the 1974 draft class and its four Hall of Famers, then to 1969 and a pick the host calls probably still the greatest in Steelers history. SNR Drive keeps a draft board open: Matt Williamson calls Jalen Warren the "must be this tall to ride this ride" measuring stick for the backfield, and the hosts concede there is "no exact science" or "blueprint" for developing quarterbacks. Steelers Blitz, with Tom Opperman and Chris Adamski, is the camp show of the group, weighing Will Howard's camp competition against Mason Rudolph's statistics because McCarthy needs late-game trust. The reporters and the fan rooms

Kaboly + Mack, Steelers Breakdown from PennLive.com, Locked On Steelers and Steelers Podcast - The Terrible Podcast carry the reporting weight, in different registers. Kaboly + Mack (Mark Kaboly and Chris Mack) is the loosest, sarcastic and locally affectionate, willing to spend a clip on Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi. The Terrible Podcast is measured and contract-literate: Alex Highsmith should not be traded unless a first-round pick comes back, and T.J. Watt's 7-sack season came with an 8.5% pressure rate when he was chipped in 2025. PennLive's Steelers Breakdown is where the offense optimism lives, with Jeremy Bernard saying the pieces and system are there "for it to thrive" and Nick Faribault charting a climb from 15th in scoring and 25th in yards through efficiency, while the hosts treat this as Rodgers' last real shot before he walks away. Locked On Steelers, from Christopher Carter, is a trade-up show in its titles and its clips: Carter says Caleb Downs could be worth moving heaven and earth despite safety's lower draft value, and Rodgers gives no timetable while explaining why he stays in shape at 42.

The fan panels are louder. Crosby, Dubas and the Penguins

The Pirates, Pitt and the long memory

The Pirates get their most sustained hearing on the Post-Gazette Sports Network, filed under Baseball, where Paul Zeise lays out the arithmetic: six playoff seasons since 1979 without a playoff series won, and a night against Washington with first and third and nobody out in extra innings and no run to show for it. The same feed covers Pitt basketball (A'lahn Sumler as a high-volume scorer who also averaged 3.9 assists) and, in its titles, Pitt volleyball, a Pirates mailbag and Steelers mock drafts. One is a conversation about Austin's affordable-housing record in which Nikki Devon warns other cities, 'We wanted to hold onto our small, weird town identity and we got caught slipping'. Another has Laura Sitsui explaining how a CSA cures decision fatigue by forcing radishes and beets into the kitchen. A third, on biking in Pittsburgh, has an expert note that no Pennsylvania law requires adults to wear a helmet before adding, 'You still have a brain that's very vulnerable in your head.'
