247 - The Pale Blue Eye

·58 min·5 clips
They Mostly Podcast at Night spends its opening stretch in a pretty glorious mess. The hosts are already in the middle of a Titanic argument before the movie gets much attention. One keeps insisting there was room on the door. The other keeps batting that away. They drift through Mythbusters, men and women on the ship, and how stupid the whole debate sounds. Then they latch onto the sinking happening in the dark, which leads to another side road about how much stranger the disaster feels when nobody can see it. They even start playing with the sound of it, with splashing, screaming, and silence doing the heavy lifting. A Llamas with Hats joke shows up too, because of course it does. After all that, they finally remember they were supposed to talk about the actual movie. The Pale Blue Eye comes up in the same loose, half-correct, half-mocking rhythm. They hit the 1830 setting. They circle around West Point. They note that Edgar Allan Poe really was there. The tone stays conversational instead of polished. Corrections keep barging in. Side comments keep stealing the wheel. The hosts sound like they trust the detours almost as much as the review. Even when they say they should keep it short, they still wander. The episode closes with the usual listener-facing asks for Facebook, reviews, and merch. It ends in the same messy, affectionate, slightly feral register it starts in.

As heard by us

Episode 247 turns sidetracks and argument into the shape of the review.

Episode 247, The Pale Blue Eye, spends much of its run drifting through Titanic arguments, door logic, and other recurring bits before circling back to the movie. That looseness seems intentional.
