Bert accuses Delia and Rodney of plotting murder for millions, forcing her to reveal their true scheme.
The episode opens with The Whistler's signature introduction, setting the stage for a crime story. Bertram Lowen arrives at the Tremont Mansion after five years of searching, meeting Rodney Tremont, a wealthy playboy who hires him as skipper of The Golden Penny based on a chess game. Bert meets Rodney's wife, Pat, and her secretary, Delia, who is secretly in league with Bert. Bert discovers Delia and Rodney are conspiring, possibly for murder, but Bert insists on a cleaner plan to steal the yacht and Rodney's $100,000. Bert manipulates Pat by reassuring her about Rodney's fidelity and suggesting a trip to cure his restlessness. He then convinces Rodney to take the yacht to a Caribbean island with Delia, promising adventure. Once at sea, Bert dismisses the crew, leading Rodney to confront him with a gun. Bert reveals his plan and proposes a chess game to settle ownership of the yacht, money, and Delia. Rodney loses but sabotages the engine with sugar, referencing Bert's earlier advice, and escapes with the money in a shoreboat. The episode concludes with Bert and Delia stranded in a storm as Rodney heads to San Juan, followed by advertisements for Signal Oil products and closing credits.
