Christine watches Henry Drake carry his wife's strangled body past her bedroom door in the middle of the night.
The episode opens with Christine McKay arriving in Florida for her health, struggling to find affordable lodging. She encounters Mrs. Drake, who rents her a room for only $7.50 per week and insists she move in immediately. That night, Christine witnesses Henry Drake carrying his wife's strangled body past her door. The next morning, Henry claims his wife is away and suggests Christine imagined everything due to her nerves. Christine goes to police headquarters to report the murder, only to discover Henry Drake is the police commissioner. He produces a telegram showing his wife Agnes is safely in Fort Lauderdale. Christine finds a scrap of paper from Mrs. Drake that turns out to be part of a telegram, revealing there's another Mrs. Drake from Seattle. She returns to the Drake house and finds Henry, who admits to bigamy and killing his first wife Willetta. Henry's wife Agnes unexpectedly arrives with a gun, believing Christine is Henry's mistress. Agnes threatens to shoot them both unless Christine leaves immediately. Christine leaves, planning to return to police headquarters with her new evidence. The Whistler narrator frames the story with commentary throughout.
