The problem is bigger than popularity. They slow the conversation down and look at what the favorite technician dynamic does to the team. A favorite can seem harmless until other people feel shut out, miss chances to learn, or start reading every assignment as a signal. The first move is to name the headspace without getting stuck in hurt feelings. What can be seen? What keeps happening? Is someone being excluded? Is there a training gap? Is there a currency problem? Or has a doctor gotten too attached to the person who makes the day run easier? Each answer points to a different fix. If some people know more because they were taught more, leadership has to ask whether training and access are being spread fairly. Nobody should only get better because they happen to work closest to a preferred doctor. Then comes the coaching piece. The doctor may not mean any harm, but the pattern still needs management. They compare it to a doctor hoarding four or five assistants while the rest of the team scrambles. Same issue, different shape. Nobody has to be cast as the villain. Leadership has to notice the behavior, name the impact, and manage doctors with the same clarity used for everyone else. The tone stays warm, but the advice is blunt enough to be useful: stop circling the drama and look at the structure rewarding favoritism. People naturally prefer some coworkers. The culture problem starts when access, development, and doctor preferences go unmanaged.
