What’s Close To You, Pt. 3

March 27, 2022·27 min·1 clip
Nia confesses she let innocents die to save her parents, questioning her fitness to be a priest.
A baby turns everyone tactical. The cabin scene keeps circling the same ugly question: is the child safer in the Isles, or across the mountains? At first, the Isles sound like the obvious answer. Then the logic starts to sour. Other children could notice his eyes. A Colonial Magistrate might ask where he came from. The risk does not go away just because the place looks safer. Taking him over the mountains means danger right now. Leaving him behind may only give suspicion more time to catch up. Nia hears all of it. Arlene and Gwen could be safer in the Isles, while Nia may have to leave her parents. Nobody pretends to know the right answer. The conversation loops back on itself, correcting and qualifying every decent option until each one shows another bruise. Then the dream enters the room. Someone says the baby may matter to them, but it lands as pressure, not prophecy. That matters, just not enough to settle anything. The scene works because the child's welfare, Arlene and Gwen's safety, and Nia's choice all collide at once. The humor stays dry, even when a modern little phrase about a shoe dropping slips into the crisis. Still, it hurts. Nia is caught between the family she was born into and the one circumstance handed her. The episode cuts away before comfort shows up. Later, after Sir Brennan gives his factual report, Regan cannot sleep and goes looking for someone to talk to.
