The Once and Future Nerd · Glass & Madera

A Handful Of Bodyguard, Pt. 5

May 28, 2023·33 min·3 clips
Billy forces two rival gang leaders to wrestle nude in a cemetery to decide who gets a buried statue.
The finale opens with logistics. Before the story gets moving again, the show pauses for an Ask the Once and Future Nerd livestream, patron thanks, and the deadline for sending questions. Then Pacific Ridge becomes the mess to solve. Vanderburg and Weston are basically gone from town rumor now, and the locals are left staring at the old contract machine, wondering why it has stopped working. Billy sounds delighted with himself. Jen is less victory lap than stomachache; the sandstorm part of the trick got out of hand, and she even feels bad for those guys. Nia says the hard part plainly. Janie's name turns from crowd noise into a political fact, because the old power is gone and someone has to stand in the empty spot. Rumor carries the rest. In one day, Pacific Ridge tries out nearly every story about the missing men: love affair, mutual ruin, supernatural payback for ancestral wrongs. Lulu's Alehouse does the useful damage. Nobody needs a grand speech there. A few pointed questions are enough to make the town show itself. Janie can feel how exposed she is. Being told eastern city mobs are worse is not exactly soothing. Her answer is all survival: she is not going east, she is not fine, and she may still be the only person Pacific Ridge will follow.
