Wojo and Riger - Who is to blame for the Jameson Williams situation?

·18 min·1 clip

Jameson Williams appears on Instagram Live in Vegas just 24 hours after receiving a six-game gambling suspension.

The episode opens with Wojo and Riger setting the stage for NFL Draft Week, quickly pivoting to the Jameson Williams situation. They report that Williams appeared on Instagram Live in Vegas just 24 hours after his suspension was announced, which they frame as a sign of immaturity. The hosts detail the consequences: Williams loses over $300,000 in game checks and nearly $7 million in guaranteed money becomes non-guaranteed. They note that other Lions players and staff were also penalized for gambling, with some losing their jobs. Wojo and Riger debate whether the NFL's gambling rules are hypocritical, given the league's partnerships with betting sites. A caller named Kevin argues that GM Brad Holmes shares blame for not properly insulating Williams, given his known immaturity. The hosts agree, speculating that Holmes might have treated the pick as 'house money' because he had extra draft capital. They compare Williams to past Lions draft busts like Jahvid Best, questioning if Holmes was blinded by Williams' speed. The discussion touches on Williams' college connection to Calvin Ridley, who also faced gambling suspensions. Wojo and Riger ponder how the Lions might handle future draft risks, like Jalen Carter, in light of this incident. They conclude by reading listener texts that largely criticize Williams for his actions and Vegas appearance.

As heard by us

A Lions suspension turns into a sharp debate over gambling rules, accountability, and how players might get caught.

Williams' six-game suspension gives Rieger and Wojo a clean sports-talk argument: where the blame belongs. They weigh the NFL's gambling rule, the Lions' unwanted place in the story, and the player's decision to show up in Las Vegas after the suspension.
