Episode 89: Lost in the Shadows

September 4, 2025·45 min·4 clips
Troy exposes the lie that keeps vampires from ruling Appalachia with hidden power under the mountains.
A room waits, hungry. Troy stands at the center with blackness in his hands, offering the ragged crew the thing they were denied. They step forward one by one. Each taste starts small, then gives way to surrender. Franklin remembers the pain. By the clock, the change is quick. Inside the body, it feels longer and crueler, moving through bone, sinew, blood, and fiber until the crew rises shaking, raw, and changed. They are still wounded, but now they are dangerous too. Their leader asks what comes next. Troy answers with comfort and command, turning their gratitude toward conquest. The city is where he points them. His gift is no kindness, and the crew can feel the teeth in the bargain. Then the story cuts away. Denise finds parking four blocks from the venue, a small mercy after the long approach with her friends and their new companion. They reach Market Square and stop before the Mercury Theater, the Merc to locals, tall and skinny between dead storefronts. The building hits them like something holy and wrong. Clay Morgan presses in around it: church-lined streets, shuttered shops, and that haunted theater waiting like a threshold. Arrival does not feel safe. It feels like being called.

As heard by us

A patient, atmospheric chapter where Troy's offer of power gives way to the haunted Mercury Theater.

Episode 89 opens with a blunt exchange: Troy offers power to a ragged crew, and the scene makes that offer feel physical, almost hungry. From there, the story shifts to the Mercury Theater, which comes across as shabby and haunted in Market Square.
