The AI Singularity - What Can You Expect?

March 9, 2026·26 min·2 clips
Stephen Bruning, caught off-guard, reveals why most AI claims are overhyped and data is the real winner.
MAG has just launched AI services, and the host brings in Stephen Bruning, the IT security director, without warning. The surprise helps keep the conversation grounded. Stephen starts carefully: AI is powerful for businesses, but a lot of online claims are oversold, especially when people skip training and guardrails. That becomes the working point. The next 12 months, 18 months, or three years belong to people who learn to operate AI instead of repeating manual work. If someone is still doing the same task by hand, Stephen says the better move is to figure out how AI can multiply the output. Then Rufus gets its turn. Asked whether Amazon is nailing AI, the host calls Rufus more flavor of the week than durable utility right now. Search still wins. Rufus can read order history and answer product questions, but the host says it takes about the same time and adds extra steps. Ads make the case even weaker. Once Amazon pushes advertising into that flow, he sees little reason to leave search. He checks Amazon's AI launches for content, but he does not use most of them. His blunt read: nine out of ten feel disposable. He expects many Amazon launches to vanish within one to two years, though Rufus probably survives because Amazon has so much data. The close turns back to business. Three free booked calls in 24 hours gives him a reason to test AI consulting demand. The survival question stays open. He does not know whether an Amazon agency without AI lasts past the singularity, but he thinks one with AI can.

As heard by us

Operator-first skepticism keeps the AI talk grounded in practical Amazon use.

My Amazon Guy treats AI as an operator problem rather than a spectacle: what is actually useful, what is oversold, and what it takes to make it work in practice.
