Solving Multiple Problems With a Single Product

·36 min·2 clips
He says the industry still ships temperature-sensitive drugs with styrofoam and ice packs, despite the labor and failure risk.
Faizan Ahmed is the CEO and founder of Invencify. Chris opens by saying he met Jackson Hyde of Diago at SLAS and heard about Invencify's new cold storage and cold shipping unit. That sets up the conversation. Faizan starts with his technical background. He studied electrical engineering and took classes in solid state physics. After graduation, he joined a small company serving the defense industry. His early work involved torque control systems for the U.S. Department of Defense and related subsidiaries. The show uses that background to show how technical training can lead into product leadership. Chris and Faizan then move to the cold-chain problem. The system tracks through LTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. That lets customers know where a package is and what the temperature is at any point in the journey. The practical difference is straightforward. Instead of checking temperature only at intermittent handoffs, users can see whether the package stayed within range the whole way. Faizan keeps coming back to business logic. He argues that an innovative product is not enough on its own. It has to solve a real customer problem. It also has to make business sense. He frames the goal as a complete solution that handles several pain points at once. That kind of integration also gives the company more control over the system. Chris ties that thinking back to marketing and product strategy. The episode ends by stressing the value of being around smart scientists, inventors, and academics. Faizan notes that funding is helped by having people around you who are better than you and can strengthen the company.
