Breaking Free - A Body, Mind, Spirit Approach to Mental Health · Sommer A. Seitz, MA, LMHC

Episode 52: Yoga is Life

·54 min·3 clips
Dora defines mindfulness as noticing “the moment when you're not mindful” and bearing discomfort.
The question starts simply. Why do people walk into a yoga studio, breathe, try unfamiliar postures, and trust the practice to improve daily life? Summer keeps the pace loose and unhurried. Awareness and mindfulness are not treated like neat little concepts. They sound more like things a person has to live through. Dora comes in as a teacher, and the connection is personal: she is from Spirit Power Yoga and is also Summer's own yoga studio teacher. Then the episode leaves the studio. Summer talks about noticing an emotion in the car and feeling the old urge to shove it away. This time, she stays. The car becomes the practice space, with breath, attention, inquiry, and enough room to feel what is there. The feeling points back to a twenty-seven-year-old version of Summer, tied to the present moment and asking not to be avoided again. She waits until morning, then makes time for yogic breath work and lets the feeling show itself. The scene gets tender without becoming polished. There is journaling, movement, emotion, and the image of hugging the younger self who had things left to feel. The episode treats old emotion as something the body can hold, and yoga as one way to let it move. Summer closes with gratitude for Dora's preparation, dedication, and steady presence as a teacher.

As heard by us

Yoga is presented as a lived practice, with mindfulness carried into ordinary life.

The conversation treats yoga as something lived, not polished into a studio ideal. Summer Seitz and Dora Dramati keep pulling it back to daily life, where mindfulness means noticing what is moving through the body, staying with it, and not forcing it away.
