Breaking Free - A Body, Mind, Spirit Approach to Mental Health · Sommer A. Seitz, MA, LMHC

Episode 50: From Dogma to Dharma

·45 min·4 clips
Sommer explains how dogma can cause harm when we surrender our sovereignty to outside authorities.
Summer Seitz comes back carefully. After months away from the microphone, she names the message that has been sitting on her heart and why it has felt risky to share. The pause is part of the story. She ties it to old programming about what is allowed, what feels safe, and how much truth a person can bring into public. A song cracks the door open. Rachel Platten's Girls, posted on Instagram stories, becomes the small real-life moment that helps her speak again. Her hope is the healing of a generation, held inside body, mind, spirit, and the belief that one life can help others become more loving, kind, and close to God. From there, the episode turns toward faith. Drawing on Father Keating, she compares external obedience with an inner path that starts in love. Ritual still has a place, but it cannot do the whole job. Religious acts can look holy while coming from pride, self-protection, or a need to prove devotion. She keeps circling Jesus's teaching about cleaning the inside of the cup first. Humility becomes the entry point. Learning starts when she can admit she does not know, notice her edges, and let discomfort stretch her frame. Her therapist mind comes with her. Therapy theories, like spiritual frameworks, can help for a season and still need to grow. By the end, she names her fear of judgment, loosens the ego that wanted approval, and offers support to listeners in their own death-and-rebirth journey.

As heard by us

A quiet return to inward faith, where humility matters more than polish.

Summer Seitz comes back after a long pause with a quiet, personal look at faith as practice, not performance. She starts with a reset, moves through Father Keating, and keeps circling the gap between outward obedience and inward change.
