Chapter 9: “Please don’t send me back there.”

September 1, 2021·47 min·2 clips
Cassie discovers Wayne is actually Scott Briggs, a felon convicted of a quadruple homicide.
Cassie stalls for time. The room is done waiting, and the interrogator makes it clear that delay now has consequences. Then the name changes. Wayne Sharp, the prison guard Cassie thought she knew, is described as a dead man from LA County. Cassie pushes back, but the interrogator does not soften the blow. The reveal comes through paperwork, blood tests, and timing. His name is Scott Briggs. The man Cassie protected is identified as a felon who escaped during the quake-day riot. That lands hard. The scene shifts from pressure to something uglier: what does loyalty mean when the facts turn this violent? Cassie did not know, and that matters. Her shock is part of the point. The interrogation is also asking whether she can still trust her own judgment. The file keeps opening. A quadruple homicide conviction, a thrown-out Encino case, and a Sacramento DNA match give her a record she cannot explain away. The room gets colder with every detail. Cassie has to separate the person she met from the history being read back to her. Protection starts to sound like evidence. The episode keeps the danger inside the interrogation: clipped commands, disbelief, and details that are awful because they are so specific. No one gets an easy out. By the end, Cassie is left with what she protected, what she never knew, and what the truth may cost next.

As heard by us

An interrogation episode where a false name gives way to Scott Briggs.

This interrogation episode turns a stolen name into something costly. Cassie stays patient for a while, then stops being patient at all, pressing the person hiding behind Wayne Sharp's identity until the room has to look at Scott Briggs.
