33. Healing Trauma Stored in the Body: A Somatic Therapist’s Personal Healing Story

May 20, 2025·1 hr 21 min·15 clips
Sonia’s conversation begins with the kind of honesty that makes room for grief right away. She talks about carrying pain in the body and still hoping healing can happen. The discussion moves through trauma, infertility, womb healing, and the wish to feel more connected to the body. Sonia brings both professional and personal experience into the conversation, and she describes how those threads come together. She had already been doing a lot of healing work. Therapy was part of it. Couples therapy with her husband was part of it too. So were reading, writing, journaling, meditation, breath work, and spirituality. Even with all of that, she still felt that something was off inside her. She describes feeling depressed, unable to settle into the present moment, and disconnected from peace. Life looked good from the outside, but inside it felt heavy and dark. The difficulty of infertility made that feeling even sharper. Month after month brought negative tests. They tried for about four or five years, and that repeated grief added another layer. At a certain point, she says, she knew she needed to look at her womb health more directly. Womb healing entered the story through fertility, but it was not treated like a magic fix. She understood that it would not automatically heal her or guarantee pregnancy, and that part had to be left to the universe. What mattered was acknowledging that something in her body needed attention. She also speaks about painful periods and the sense that her womb needed care. The conversation keeps circling back to emotional release and what somatic work can open up when words alone are not enough. It treats healing as something lived, not theoretical. It also makes space for the mix of control and surrender that comes with trying to heal while hoping for a child. Sonia’s story eventually reaches a place of expectation, but the episode does not flatten that into a neat ending. Instead, it frames her experience as a reminder that healing is possible even when it is slow and uneven. The tone stays gentle and intimate throughout. It invites the listener to go inward, listen to the body, and notice what may have been waiting beneath the surface all along.

A warm, body-centered conversation about infertility, trauma, and reconnecting with the body.

This episode lives in the uneasy overlap of trauma, infertility, and somatic healing, and it handles that territory with care. Sonia's story gives it weight as she talks through years of trying to conceive, the repeated negative tests, and the moment when the healing work she…
