The guide
How Times Square podcasts differ, and which to try
The useful split arrives fast. Some podcasts treat Times Square as a place to plan around: restaurants, attractions, a family day out. Others use the name as an entrance to true crime. Between those poles sit two narrower approaches, one through a soundtrack and another through a holiday object.
Dedicated coverage is modest and sharply compartmentalized. No single show here builds a broad portrait. The better move is to choose the Times Square you want to hear about, then start with the episode whose format fits.
The practical visit, in magazine segments
Passport Mommy offers the most service-minded coverage. Its warm, brisk interview style suits lists of places and things to do, and Hyatt Regency Times Square; John's Pizzeria Times Square; Ellen's Stardust Diner; Things to do in Orlando puts a hotel, a pizzeria, and a diner into one busy itinerary.
The show’s second Times Square title is even more eclectic: The Great Big Game Show and the Escape Game in Times Square Are A Blast! A New Way of Doing Spinal Fusion Surgery. That mixed billing tells you what kind of listen this is. Expect useful, enthusiastic segments rather than one sustained exploration of the neighborhood. For families deciding where to eat or what activity to try, that practicality is the attraction.
A soundtrack and a holiday object
Bandsplain provides the clearest cultural doorway with SOUNDTRACK: ‘Times Square’ with Patrik Sandberg. The episode title frames the subject through music and a guest conversation, making it the natural choice for listeners whose interest begins with the soundtrack rather than travel advice.
Object Project goes narrower still. Holidays: Times Square New Year's Eve Ball isolates a single object and a seasonal frame. It is the most focused alternative to the visitor-guide episodes: one recognizable piece of Times Square, treated as the whole reason to listen.
Neither title promises an all-purpose account of the place. That specificity is useful. Bandsplain is the music-led route; Object Project is the compact holiday-history route.
When the name leads into true crime
The darkest branch belongs to two shows whose episode titles foreground “The Times Square Killer.”
UNMARKED: A True Crime Podcast is the more interpretive option. The show uses a controlled narrator, supporting interview material, and an evidence-sorting style; The Times Square Killer: Reconstructing the Crimes — What His Conversations Reveal signals the same priorities in miniature. “Reconstructing” and “what his conversations reveal” point toward analysis rather than casual retelling. This is the starting point for listeners who prefer a measured, psychologically attentive presentation.
Suspect Zero Podcast makes its format explicit in Episode 18: The Times Square Killer with Special Guests, Jennifer Weiss and Peter Vronsky. With the guests named in the title, it offers a useful companion listen for anyone who wants another treatment of the same named case, this time with the discussion built around invited voices.
These episodes offer substantial routes into true-crime coverage, but they do not serve as guides to Times Square itself. Here the place name identifies the case.
The mentions that stay in the background
Beyond those dedicated titles, Times Square mostly appears inside broader conversations. The Thought Card: Smart Travel Tips & Vacation Planning For Financially Savvy Travelers ranges across New York in 219. Best New York City Photo Spots with NYC Photo Journeys (feat. Jessie Festa) and 216. Celebrating Women Who Built New York City with She Shapes History NYC (feat. Beth Santos and Nikki Padilla Rivera). Any Times Square material there is part of a larger city itinerary or history discussion, not the headline attraction.
Undiscarded: Stories of New York also leaves Times Square in the background. Subway Token and Newsstand, for instance, suggest tightly framed New York stories; Times Square remains a passing point rather than the named subject. These may reward listeners already interested in the city, but they are poor first choices for a focused Times Square search.
Where to start
For practical ideas, begin with Passport Mommy’s Hyatt Regency Times Square; John's Pizzeria Times Square; Ellen's Stardust Diner; Things to do in Orlando.
For music and cultural conversation, choose Bandsplain’s SOUNDTRACK: ‘Times Square’ with Patrik Sandberg.
For a short, object-centered holiday angle, try Object Project’s Holidays: Times Square New Year's Eve Ball.
For true crime, start with UNMARKED: A True Crime Podcast’s The Times Square Killer: Reconstructing the Crimes — What His Conversations Reveal, then compare it with Suspect Zero Podcast’s guest-led Episode 18: The Times Square Killer with Special Guests, Jennifer Weiss and Peter Vronsky.
