Listening guide
A listener's guide to ITV podcasts
There is very little podcast coverage that examines ITV as an institution. Most references arrive sideways: through a programme, a broadcaster, or a conversation whose real subject lies elsewhere. Anyone looking for a sustained history or business analysis will find the pickings thin.
Two direct signposts
The clearest title-level entry comes from Your Future Forward. EP2 ITV - Solicitor | The Apprentice Diaries frames ITV through a specific career and apprenticeship story. It is a narrow doorway, useful for listeners interested in working life rather than programming or corporate strategy.
Fred Asquith On Film takes a looser entertainment route with The Oscars Got It…RIGHT?! Full Breakdown & ITV Hangover. Even here, ITV shares the billing with an Oscars discussion. The appeal is the immediate reaction and post-broadcast mood, rather than a comprehensive account of the organisation.
ITV through individual programmes
More often, ITV appears as part of the furniture around a particular show. BB on Blast: Big Brother Podcast is firmly in that camp. Big Brother UK: Baked Potato on Blast! and Celebrity Big Brother 2025: Taking the Mickey | CBBUK promise personality-driven reality-TV discussion; references to ITV sit inside that running commentary.
Welcome To Midsomer offers a different texture. Its brisk recap-and-critique format moves between plot summary, jokes, corrections and production-minded digressions. Episodes such as Welcome To Midsomer #66 - The Wolf Hunter of Little Worthy and Welcome To Midsomer #21 - Talking To The Dead with Alice Bell provide programme-level discussion in which ITV may arise, without turning the broadcaster into the main subject.
Telefantasy Time Jump works similarly through older television. Telefantasy Time Jump 15: The Prisoner (1967) and Telefantasy Time Jump 13: Out of the Unknown (1965) are routes into particular productions and periods. Come for television history; expect ITV to remain contextual.
Archives and broadcasting lives
The Custard TV Podcast is the strongest option for listeners who enjoy schedules, programmes and eras being considered together. TV Time Machine # 24 – October 2000 – Blackadder Back and Forth, Fat Friends, Without Motive, North Square turns one month of television into the organising idea, while TV Time Machine #18: Phoenix Nights, The Vice, Banzai, 2 Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps gathers another set of shows for retrospective discussion. That wider television memory is where ITV fits most naturally.
Elsewhere, the connection is biographical. Desert Island Discs places a broadcaster at the centre of Lorraine Kelly, broadcaster, using its characteristically patient, music-led interview style. Happy Place takes a warmer and more candid route with Ruth Langsford: “We all go through sht!” My life with divorce and dementia*. Any ITV material in these conversations is subordinate to the guest’s story.
Where to start
Begin with Your Future Forward’s EP2 ITV - Solicitor | The Apprentice Diaries for the most explicitly focused title. Try Fred Asquith On Film’s The Oscars Got It…RIGHT?! Full Breakdown & ITV Hangover for a livelier entertainment angle. For ITV as part of British television memory, choose The Custard TV Podcast’s TV Time Machine # 24 – October 2000 – Blackadder Back and Forth, Fat Friends, Without Motive, North Square.
