A listener's guide to Al Gore podcasts
Al Gore receives surprisingly little direct podcast coverage. Most appearances are passing references inside episodes about elections, climate, technology, or other political figures. Two shows put his name in an episode title, and they could hardly be further apart in tone.
The serious political interview
For sustained current-affairs treatment, the clear first stop is The Bulwark Podcast. Its brisk, conversational interview style gives guests room while keeping the host actively involved. Al Gore: Trump Has Made a Historic Mistake promises a direct discussion framed around Gore’s judgment of Trump, rather than a retrospective assembled from stray mentions.
Nothing else offers comparable evidence of a full political conversation. Listeners looking for Gore as an interview subject should start—and may well finish—here.
The comedy detour
Without Definite Aim supplies the opposite experience. Ep 165: Al Gore, RedBull Vodkas and Cock Sleeves (with special guest Chris). places him in a deliberately unruly comic assortment. The title signals irreverence, not a careful political or historical examination. Choose it for the collision of subjects and the loose guest energy, not for a Gore primer.
That contrast defines much of the available listening: one explicit political interview, one explicit comedy episode, then a long tail of references.
Elections, viewed from the side
The strongest historical route comes through Running Mates, although even here Gore appears as part of a larger electoral structure. Episode 8: 1996 - Kemp v. Gore is the most direct entry. The two-part Episode 9: 2000 - Cheney v. Lieberman (Part 1) and Episode 10: 2000 - Cheney v. Lieberman (Part 2) shift attention to the running mates, so any Gore material belongs to the surrounding election story rather than a standalone portrait.
Other political-history mentions are more peripheral. If You Can Keep It turns its attention elsewhere in S7-E7: We're Pretty Sure that We're Not Sure - The George W. Bush Story and S7-E6: The Bill Clinton Calamity. Those may provide adjacent context, but neither title promises meaningful time with Gore himself.
Climate and technology references
A few episodes enter territory where Gore may arise without making him the main subject. The Right Side of History frames one discussion as The Right Side Of History: Environmentalist Predictions of Doom Are Nothing New. Environmental Professionals Postulating asks What's the link between wealth, energy demand, CO2 and Climate Change? Both point toward environmental argument, but the titles support treating Gore as a possible reference within that argument, not its centre.
With Erudition and Podcast Episode #387: Creating the Internet, that caution still holds. The episode’s declared subject is the internet. Anyone pressing play specifically for Gore should expect, at most, a passing mention.
Where to start
Begin with The Bulwark Podcast and Al Gore: Trump Has Made a Historic Mistake for the only plainly substantial contemporary treatment. For electoral history, try Running Mates and Episode 8: 1996 - Kemp v. Gore. If you would rather hear Gore used as part of a chaotic comic premise, Without Definite Aim has Ep 165: Al Gore, RedBull Vodkas and Cock Sleeves (with special guest Chris)..
