About Write Now with Sarah Werner
Write Now with Sarah Werner approaches writing as a lived practice, not a polished identity. The show is about the page, but it is also about the person trying to return to it. Sarah Werner speaks directly from the friction points of creative life: pain, inconsistency, perfectionism, ambition, fear, and the stubborn need to make something anyway. One episode may focus on how to start writing. Another may examine why a seventh draft can become a trap. The advice stays close to ordinary tools, including notebooks, pens, free writing, fan fiction, copied sentences, coffee, and the difficult ritual of beginning again each day. It is encouraging without pretending that encouragement solves everything. Werner’s own circumstances often shape the episodes, from recording on the floor during a herniated-disc ordeal to reflecting on the gap between wanting to make more episodes and actually making them. That self-scrutiny gives the show its texture. It does not separate craft from health, work, money, or self-doubt. It treats those pressures as part of the writing life. The guest episodes broaden that perspective. Jared Anderson’s conversation brings in poetry, audio drama, authenticity, mental health, and the danger of romanticizing suffering. Asa Merritt’s appearance turns toward art, commerce, documentary attention, and ambitious fictional work. Across the excerpts, curiosity becomes a central value. So does permission: permission to begin badly, to stop rewriting, to write from spite, to ask for what is wanted, and to keep a creative self alive under imperfect conditions. The show’s register is warm and personal, with flashes of humor and a willingness to admit when the process feels strange, messy, or unfinished. It is especially useful for writers who do not need another rigid system. They need a thoughtful companion for the complicated middle of making work.
Made for: For aspiring, returning, and working writers who want craft guidance with emotional honesty. It especially fits listeners wrestling with starting, rewriting, self-doubt, burnout, or the pressure to make art useful.
What sets it apart: The show blends practical writing prompts with unusually candid creative self-auditing. Its strength is the way ordinary craft problems become honest conversations about bodies, minds, money, courage, and persistence.
